Sandy Mehlhoff, age 77, of Minot, ND, formerly of New Rockford, ND passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on the early morning of February 15th, 2022 in her home comforted by her family.

Sandra Kay Jordan was born on September 10th, 1944 in Eddy County to Arthur Clayton Jordan and Zada Brunette Sproatt.  She was lucky to be born into a very big family that continued to grow as well as have a large family with her husband Ron.

Sandy and Ronald Mehlhoff were married in Fargo, ND on February 15th, 1965.  They were fortunate to always have a two-day celebration with Valentine’s Day and their Anniversary.  Sandy and Ron were always together and focused on their family.  When the kids were young they would travel from Minot to New Rockford several times a month to visit family and friends.  The girls would love to see their name in the New Rockford Transcript when they visited relatives and it was posted in the paper.  They enjoyed taking the girls on picnics, fishing, car rides around Minot and the surrounding area.  They traveled whenever they could and it was always special even though there were 6 in a vehicle.  Whether it was a big trip to South Dakota, visiting the Peace Gardens or Montana, annual trip to Bismarck for school shopping or local trips to all parts of ND, Sandy always made the trips feel special by packing picnic lunches where they would stop and enjoy time together as a family (ok maybe there was some fighting and restlessness in the car during the trips but still very fun to travel).  They always tried to make everything special for the girls whether it was a trip to the zoo, birthdays, Christmas, etc.

Sandy always worked, starting at a very young age.  She began working on the family farm, then began waitressing and worked in the restaurant business till the day she retired.  She was extremely good at taking care of not only her family but her customers – she treated them just like family.  She worked in many places in Minot – Copperpot, International Inn, Homesteaders Restaurant and then in the 90s she was asked to open up the new food concession stand, Clowns Corner at Bingorama for NDAD.  She built the concession stand from the ground up and it was very successful.  Sandy was an amazing cook and baker.  She created the menu and was known for her cooking and baking.  If you visited Clowns Corner you would have to try her famous Stacy Special, sloppy joes, bread pudding or caramel rolls.  Sandy was so successful, she tried to retire 3 times before they finally let her retire.  After retirement you would find Sandy and Ron enjoying a drive around town, shopping for good deals, testing their luck at Bingo or an occasional casino, visiting with friends and family whenever they could.

Other than being an amazing cook and baker, Sandy loved to embroider and gift items to friends and family, put together 1000-piece puzzles, she loved word searches and playing Bingo with friends and family.  In the summer she would like to go to the fair to eat – she had to have her corn dog, mini donuts and try anything that was new.  Sandy loved the Minnesota Twins. She was very excited when she got to see them in person but enjoyed them on TV as well.  She could tell you all of the players and every year she had her favorites. Her hobbies also included caring for her flowers throughout the summer.

Sandy was very giving of her love and worldly goods.  She loved her family very much and yet had so much more love to give to others.  Many times, she would introduce people as her “adopted” daughter or son.  She had so much love to give and would adopt anyone into her family who needed to be loved.  Sandy cared deeply for people and especially those who were faced with a difficult time or challenges.  Every year Sandy and Ron at Christmas time, would adopt a family or a couple of children from a giving tree and make sure they were taken care of.

Sandy was an angel among us because of her love and care that she extended to everyone who knew her.

Sandy is survived by her husband Ronald, Minot; daughters Ronelle Mehlhoff, Maddock, Rodelle (Lee Jones) Mehlhoff, Janesville, MN, Deborah Westwood, Minot, Ronni (Bill) Whetham, Berthold and honorary daughter Shannon Riggle; cherished grandchildren:  Amanda (Cody) Mace, Lacy Westwood, Justin Whetham, Britni Whetham, Jarett Whetham, Jayden Jones, Lee Wheeler and Madison Moen; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; Loving family:  Lois (Leonard) Jacobson, Carolyn (Casper) Feist, Arthur (Annette) Jordan; step brothers and sisters:  Richard (Vicky) Ryan, Teresa and the late Harry Lewis, Tom (Kathy) Ryan, Willie (Pat) Ryan, Ron (Chris) Ryan, Cathy Ryan and Roger (Deanna) Ryan and many Mehlhoff family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur (Doris) Jordan and Zada (Norman) Torgimson; daughters Robin Mehlhoff and Sonja Kay Mehlhoff; stepson Richie Mehlhoff; brothers Russell (Bud) Jordan, Bert Jordan and Glenn Charles Jordan and sisters Verna Olson and Shirley Jordan.

Sandy’s Visitation will be Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 12:00PM-2:00PM followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Her Burial will be at the Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford, ND.
