Gena Blackbird, 37, of Fort Totten, ND, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022, at her home in Fort Totten, ND.

Gena “Gena Beans” Lee Blackbird was born on May 21, 1982 to Patsy (Bull) Owlboy and Duane Blackbird in Devils Lake, ND.  She attended school at Pierre Indian Center and then back home to Four Winds, where she graduated in 2002.  She had her daughter RayAnn with Jesse McKay III.  She had many jobs in different positions.  She was always an outgoing, happy person and was always willing to help anyone out if they needed it.  She always went the extra step and had love for everyone.  Gena enjoyed long walks, listening to music, visiting, laughing and joking and having fun with friends and family, especially her daughter RayAnn.

Gena is survived by her mother Patsy Owlboy Bull, daughter RayAnn McKay, sisters Meggie (Sheena) Leftbear, Jenny Blackbird, adopted brother Trevor St. John, aunts Sheila, Karen, Susian, Julia, Angie, Mary, Bonnie Bull, Kari Blackbird, Darleen, Jackie, Sandy and Janice Blackbird, uncles Lawrence, Alex, James, Jesse, Bobby Joe, Bobby Lee, Clyde and Derrick Bull, Lormen Owlboy Sr., Jay Jermo, Jerry Blackbird and Todd Belgarde, many cousins, life-long companion Brandon Johnson “BJ”, God children Javen and Jordan St. John, Alex Blackbird, Alvin Blackbird, Bella Blackbird, Clayton Blackbird, granddaughter Sage Blackbird and many other family members.  Sorry if we have forgotten anyone, it was not intentional.

Preceded in death by her father Duane Blackbird, Dewey Blackbird, Ramona Bull, Clayton Bull Sr., Betrice Jeromo, Clayton Blackbird, Clayton Bull Jr., Jerome Black, Johnny Blackbird, RoseAnn Bull, Holly Leftbear and many other family members.  Sorry if we have forgotten anyone, it was not intentional.

Friends wishing to join the procession from New Rockford to Fort Totten may gather on the St. Jerome’s road, Fort Totten, prior to 4:15PM.

Gena’s Wake will be Monday, March 14, 2022 at 5:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at Dakota Baptist Church, Fort Totten, ND.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 10:30AM at Dakota Baptist Church, Fort Totten, ND.

Her Burial will be at the St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, Fort Totten, ND in the spring.
