David Young
David Young, age 64, of Sykeston, ND, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on January 9th, 2023, after his 6 month battle with cancer.
David was born on November 14th, 1958, in Carrington, ND to Norman and Donna (Aarhus) Young. He grew up in rural Sykeston on the Young family farm. He attended and graduated from Sykeston Public School in 1977. During high school he worked for Ray Grager. After high school he attended NDSCS for Architectural Drafting and graduated in 1979. Once he completed college, he moved back to Sykeston.
On June 9th, 1984, he was united in marriage to Gina Garrity. They made their home in Sykeston and had two daughters. David’s passion was farming, and he worked alongside his dad until Norman retired and took over the family farm. David also kept busy by driving bus for SHS and then became a full-time mail carrier in 1988 for the post office in Sykeston. He was with the postal service for 32 years and retired in 2015.
David’s life was his family. He would never miss a birthday, graduation, or any celebration. He always showed up or made sure you knew he was thinking about you. David had three grandkids and they were the light of his life. He was an amazing grandpa. David was a soft-spoken person most of the time until the Minnesota Vikings were playing. He enjoyed watching them play and attended a few games. He spent many weekends going to the races with his good friend Todd Grager watching Trent Grager race. David also looked forward to every Arizona trip to visit his brother Lynn.
David is survived by his wife, Gina Young, Sykeston, ND; two daughter, Emily Young and Libby (Jerome) Lies both of Sykeston, ND; grandchildren, Ashtyn, Owen, Crew Lies of Sykeston, ND; three siblings, Lynn (Bernette) Young, Mesa, AZ; Lori (Roger) Nymark, Georgetown, MN; Joni (Randy) Love, Bismarck, ND; and nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, grandparents.
David touched the hearts of many and will be missed dearly.
A Visitation will be Friday, from 1:00PM-4:30PM at Evans Funeral Home and will continue from 6:00PM-7:00PM at Bethel Assembly of God followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all of Carrington.
David’s Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 2:00PM at Bethel Assembly of God Church, Carrington, ND.
His Burial will be at the Sykeston Cemetery.

So sorry to hear of David’s passing and his battle with that dreaded Cancer.
Have known Dave his whole life and he was a really soft spoken man. Great friend and strong as an Ox too.
He was our mailman for many years and always had a smile on his face when he came to our door and if he just dropped off the mail in the mailbox, he would always stick his arm out the window and give a big wave.
May God bless him and his family and may He welcome Dave into his Kingdom for all of Eternity.
Sorry to hear of Dave`s passing. He will now be in peace.

This one really hurts. David farmed the land around us and we would talk all the time.I remember him bundling Norman up and driving him up for one last look at the land.Maybe a bit of humor could help. After supper one evening he rings the bell. Well, Rosemary gets all excited. We have company! She drags him in, sits him at the dining room table, starts coffee, gets out some cake, talking away all the time.About twenty minutes in it comes out that all he really wanted was a ride back to his truck about a mile west but he was too polite to tell us. He may be stuck at her table right now again.
My deepest sympathy for Gina and all of Daves family may he rest in peace
Our very deepest sympathies!
David will be missed, basketball, softball, and pool shooting, David was the go to man and darts too, will be missed with a heavy heart. I send my prayers to the family, thanks David for who you were.
