Robert “Bob” Bailey
Robert “Bob” Bailey, age 85, of Carrington, ND, died Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Fargo VA Medical Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Robert Boyd Bailey was born on November 19, 1937, on the farm 3 miles east of Wilton, ND, the son of Orva and Agnes Hilda (Lind) Bailey. He graduated from Wilton High School in 1956. That upcoming fall, Robert joined the Air Force for four years. He was called for Alert Duty in Guam, Alaska and England. His home base Dyess AFB was in Abilene, Texas. He returned to Wilton in 1960 upon his discharge. Robert worked odd jobs and spent one year building a dam in Ft. Thompson, SD. In 1963, he was hired on at Northern Pacific Railroad. He retired after 37 years of duty in 1999.
On April 3, 1965, Robert was united in marriage to Arlene Hanson in Turtle Lake, ND. They were married for 52 years before her passing in July of 2017.
Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing; as well as wood and leather working. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling on bus tours after retiring.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington.
He is survived by daughter, Marilyn (Dean) McMurray, Fargo, ND; son, Tom Bailey, Carrington, ND; his grandchildren, Bailey and Wyatt McMurray, Sydney, Cayden, and Kylee Bailey.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, his parents, brothers, John, David, Ralph, and Merlin.
Roberts’ Visitation will be Wednesday, March 22, from 1:00PM-6:00PM, with family present from 5:00PM – 6:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, in Carrington.
Roberts’ Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 10:00AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND.
The Burial will be held at the Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

I was sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Although, I didn’t know him I know that he must have been a good man because he raised a loving daughter. You and your family are in my thoughts as you grieve his passing. You are now the oldest generation. Carry on your traditions.

Sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He was always so kind and fun to visit with. The only guy I knew that would travel many miles to eat lutefisk 😆. I will also miss his delicious canned pickles he made and the fish he shared. He was also such a good friend to my dad, we will miss him greatly! R.I.P. Bob!

I came to know Bob through our service for the railroad. He was a kind man and always fun to share a story with. It seemed as time never affected him on his mental and physical ability as he aged.I think the last time I visited with him was Maybe 10 years ago in Valley City. Same Bob I knew 30 years earlier. He was a lover of life and family. May Gods love and your memories sustain you during this time of change.

I am a classmate of Arlene’s and when I lived In their area I got to visit with her now and then. Knew Bob also. Special thoughts go out to Marilyn and Tom and families. Glad to have known them. Prayers and peace.
So very sorry for the loss of your dear Dad, he was such a wonderful man! Always a friendly smile and conversations when I met him out and about. A great fisherman, when my Dad was alive, Bob would bring him lot’s of Northern and then I would have to fry them 😊,we sure enjoyed those fish. Our sincere condolences.

We never saw each other much, but you were still one of my favorite uncles and my Godfather. I am sad I had to miss your funeral, but I have been thinking of you. I know you are with all of our loved ones who have passed before you and I am sure Aunt Arlene was waiting with open arms to welcome you to your eternal home. Marilyn, Tom and family, my thoughts will continue to be with you and pray you find comfort in all the memories you had over the lifetime with your dad.
