Genevieve Copenhaver

Genevieve Copenhaver, age 96, died Friday, April 7, 2023, at her rural home.

Genevieve Mae was born April 25, 1926, the daughter of Mathias and Anna (Goebel) Huss, at Wells County, ND.  She went to school in Sykeston, ND.  After graduation she kept house for two of her brothers before moving to Fargo, ND, to work at the telephone company.  Later she moved back to Carrington and worked at the Foster County State Bank for a few years.  On October 24, 1956, Genevieve was united in marriage to Stanley Copenhaver Jr. in Carrington, ND.  After raising six kids, Genny worked for several years in the laundry department at Golden Acres Manor.  Holidays were special, because of her homemade buns and she always made extra for the grandchildren to take with them.  She carried on this tradition until several years ago.  Her faith was very important and she started each day with daily devotions.  Genny also enjoyed reading and word finds.

She is survived by her husband, Stan of 66 years; children, Pat of Carrington, ND, David (Joan) of Carrington, ND, Jane (Graham) Oakland of Reynolds, ND, Mary Jo Tardif of Jamestown, ND, and Steve (Pam) of Sykeston, ND.  She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Lillian Aljets of Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Anne Newhouse; grandchildren, Luke and Tess Copenhaver; sons-in-law, Tom Newhouse and Ed Tardif; brothers, Walter, Matt, John, Fritz, Martin, Arthur and Francis (Tom) Huss, and sister, Marie Laber.

Genny’s Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 3:00PM – 6:45PM, followed by the Rosary Service at 6:45 PM and a Vigil Service at 7:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, ND.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on April 14, 2023 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington, ND.

Her Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery, in Carrington, ND at a later date.

  4. To Stan and the entire family my deepest sympathies. I remember many visits at your farm and enjoyed the conversation between Stan and Ara, Genny and Thelma. Genny was a wonderful hostess and you never left without some type of lunch. She was indeed a wonderful farmer’s wife.
