Lyndon Harold Larson, 72, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at home in Olathe, KS.

He was born February 16, 1951, to Walter and Rose (Glaser) Larson, joining his sister, Colleen, and brothers: Carlton, Clifford, Virgil, Ronald, and Thomas. Growing up on a farm near Carrington, ND, Lyndon quickly learned both inside and outside chores. As the youngest, he was the only child at home for many years and ruled the roost. In 1969, Lyndon graduated from Carrington High School, where he was active in sports and music. He often practiced his trumpet on the dormer roof of the farmhouse. A dedicated 4-H member, he spent hours grooming his prize steers. Lyndon enjoyed playing in the haymow with his nieces and nephews, climbing trees and silos, and working alongside his dad and brothers on the farm. He was his mom’s sidekick, where he learned to cook, play piano and read the Bible. He was proud that he had read the entire Bible by age 11.

Lyndon loved the farm; but one hot summer day when he was baling hay while his friends were having fun at Dover Dam, he decided country life wasn’t for him. He soon enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps and set out to see the world.

Lyndon served in the Marines from 1972-1975 and in the Army National Guard of ND and SD from 1975-1980. He obtained a Business Administration degree from Dakota Business College, Fargo, ND and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from National College of Business, Rapid City, SD. As a Certified Public Accountant, he specialized in construction finance, serving in accounting and controller positions in SD, CO and AZ.

Lyndon married Julie Polries on November 27, 1976, in Sykeston, ND and the adventure began! Lyndon’s career moved them from the plains to the mountains and to the desert. In Colorado, Allysa Rose and Kristin Lee were born and became Lyndon’s pride and joy. He supported them in all their endeavors: mission trips around the world, summer camps, soccer and softball games, and music recitals. Later he advised and encouraged them as they went on to college, grad school and launched their careers.

Lyndon made every family trip an exciting escapade, creating hilarious lifetime memories. He loved watching his grandsons play sports, whether at an actual game or in the front yard. He learned about all the latest cartoons, and even became a Chiefs fan, so he could cheer them on with his grandkids. Lyndon loved the outdoors: fishing, golfing, boating; and he loved to entertain friends and family: playing cards, grilling a delicious steak, mixing a mean drink, and telling good stories! Once Lyndon joined the family, wielding his custom pool cue, the Polries Christmas pool tournament was never the same!

Lyndon had an unwavering faith in Jesus and loved sharing it with others. He had a generous heart for those in need, often hiring people for odd jobs just to help support them. He was part of the Baptist Church wherever he lived and served as church moderator, deacon, adult bible study leader, children’s Sunday School teacher, choir member and participated in Christmas productions. Lyndon was also a Promise Keeper and had the opportunity to attend events in CA and AZ.

Lyndon is survived by his wife, Julie, daughters Allysa (Adam) Reck, Olathe, KS, and Kristin Larson, Gilbert, AZ; grandchildren, Asher, Ezra, Isaiah and Rosalie Reck, Olathe, KS; Lyndon’s sisters-in-law Renee Larson, Gettysburg, SD and Gloria Larson, Billings, MT; and Julie’s sisters, brothers and in-laws: Linda (Charlie) Donlin, Peggy (Mark) Anderson, Patti (Bruce) Penas, Larry (Cessna) Polries, Kim Polries, Jon (Stephanie) Polries; many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and their families; and lifelong friends.

Lyndon was preceded in death by his beloved parents, sister, and brothers; sisters-in-law June, Norma, and Barbara Larson; brother-in-law Robert Anderson; father-in-law Donald Polries, mother-in-law Sheila Polries and brother-in-law David Polries.

A prayer service will be held, Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home, in Carrington, ND. Lyndon’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Carrington, and burial will take place on Monday, May 8, at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.

His Visitation will be Friday, May 5, 2023 from 6:00PM-7:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:30AM at Calvary Baptist Church, Carrington, ND.

His Burial will be at 11:00AM on Monday, May 8, 2023 at the ND Veteran’s Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
