She attended Nordmore School, was confirmed at Kvernes Lutheran Church, and graduated high school in New Rockford in 1949. She then started her working career for the Red Owl Company in Carrington, Harvey, and Fargo. In 1951, Gen began working as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell in Carrington. Gen married Percy Hambrick in Jamestown in December of 1952. Their son James (Jim) was born in Aberdeen in March of 1965 and they returned to Carrington later that year when they purchased the 5 Spot Bar. Gen then began her banking career at Foster County State Bank (Bremer) in 1966, where she served in the roles of teller and personal banking officer.
Percy died in May of 1993. In September of 1998, she married Kenneth (Ken) Klein at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington. She retired from nearly 33 years of banking in 1998. Ken passed away in February 2009.

Jim and all, so sorry for this loss. I’ll never forget Gen telling me that my grandparents witnessed her marriage to Percy and then they all went out for lunch. Our family goes way back with Gen as she boarded with my Zink grandparents. She was always a class act, she lived her life out loving and laughing! Gone but never forgotten!
Jim,
Gen and Percy were like second parents to me. I will never forget them!

Aunt Genny was so fun to be around! She was also one of the classiest women I ever knew. She will be missed here on this earth but oh, the celebrating that must be going on in heaven with her homecoming! Her love of the Lord and trust in His mercy will be rewarded.
Gen was a classy beautiful person. She served as a mentor to many! Hardworking , bright , diligent would be just a start of the many adjectives describing her. These attributes were naturally passed onto her son Jim!
Gen— you will be missed but never forgotten!
Gen was such a kind & gracious lady. Steve worked with her at the bank & our sons used to mow her lawn. She was very well liked & well respected in the Carrington community. Our Deepest Sympathy on your loss.
Dear Jim and all,
I am thinking of you all at this time of sorrow and remembrance. Gen was one of the finest people I knew. Kind and generous, funny and sweet, just terrific. When I think of my childhood in Carrington, Gen is one of the people who stand out. She was inspiring in many ways. I will be there in spirit at her service. And I will be thinking of you all.
