William “Bill” Bauer
William “Bill” Bauer, age 87, of Carrington, ND, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at CHI St. Alexius Health Center, Carrington, surrounded by his loving family.
William Alvin Bauer was born on a farm near Bordulac, ND, to Ferdinand and Rachel (Partlow) Bauer on January 1, 1937. He attended grade school at Bucephlia #2 near Bordulac and Johnson #2 south of Sykeston. After his family moved back to the Bordulac area, he attended High School at Bordulac and graduated in 1954. He then worked for Art Buedoin and Oscar Dell in a service station.
In 1958, he was united in marriage to Marlys Jane Hewitt, they enjoyed 52 years of marriage before her death. Together they were blessed with four boys: Jay, Craig, Lynn, and Marty. Eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren were forthcoming from this marriage.
In 1958, he started working as an Apprentice Lineman for Tri-County Electric in Carrington, ND, and over the 40 years with Tri-County Electric, he was promoted to Hot-line Foreman and transferred to Jamestown, ND, for three years as Assistant-Line Superintendent. Bill and his family then moved back to Carrington, and he was promoted to Manager of Operations and held that position for twenty-eight years.
Bill served for several years on the Carrington City Council, was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, served as Trusty for six years, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, served as a Grand Knight for two years, and was a past member of the Eagles and Elks Club.
Bill served in the National Guard from 1958 to 1964 and was discharged as a Sgt First Class. He also was a member of the American Legion.
Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing in earlier years, horseback riding, and spending time with his family. Over the years, he received many awards, two life-saving awards and the Honorary C Club Awards, which were the most valued by him.
After his retirement from Northern Plains Electric, he drove school bus for the Carrington School District for 11 years.
Bill and Marlys Dunn were united in marriage in 2011, from this marriage Bill gained three more children: Trevor Dunn, David (Bridgette) Dunn, and Shaunette (Mike) Koenig; and four grandchildren. Bill and Marlys enjoyed time on the lake, traveling, and spending time with their families.
Bill will be greatly missed by his wife, Marlys Ann; one son, Jay (Cindy); daughter-in-law, Sandy, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren; children, Trevor Dunn, David (Bridgette) Dunn, and Shaunette (Mike) Koenig; four grandchildren; a brother, Paul (Cheryl) Bauer, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marlys Jane; three sons, Craig William, Lynn Edward, and Marty Rae; a brother, Gary; and three sisters, Phyllis, Deloris, and Marlene.
His Visitation will be Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 1:00PM-4:30PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, and will continue from 6:00PM-6:45PM followed by a Rosary at 6:45PM and Vigil Service at 7:00PM all at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington.
Bill’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 10:30AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington.
His Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery.

I loved Bill, He was a great neighbor and friend, the kind of man that made me want to be a better man.
Bill was a giant of a man! Larger than life! He just lived to do things to make others smile and feel loved…special! We were all blessed to have had him in our lives… whether for a moment or four hours, Bill was a blessing!
I’m going to miss Bill. He always had a smile on his face and whenever I saw him! He would say, “Hi Cuz!”. One day I asked him why he always said that and that’s when I found out that we did have common relatives through the Driessen bloodline. Bill was also a Pinochle player and we would end up playing in tournaments against each other. I always enjoyed our visits and my heart was pretty sad to see the news of his passing. Condolences to the family and all those who loved him.❤️
I will miss you, my friend. Loved your smile, your encouraging words and your gentle ways. Eternal rest grant unto him, Oh Lord! Rest in Peace, Bill Bauer!

Praying For The Family; I had the great pleasure of caring for Mr. Bill, he always had a smile on his face. I’m gonna miss all the long talks we had he was truly an inspiration.

My Uncle Bill Bauer has meant so much to my family. His visits always brought laughter and love and he connected personally with every family member no matter how little they were. I will miss him beyond measure. Until we meet again….

Bill was a great man. I have many fond memories working for the Bauer family back in high school at the Dairy Queen. One of my favorites was Bill scrambling around the kitchen one busy night with me, I stopped him and asked what he was looking for and he said “the buns for the corn dogs!” LOL. Bill will be missed by many for sure.
