Russell “Rusty” Sherman Jr.
Russell “Rusty” Duane Sherman Jr. passed away in his home on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 70 years old. Rusty was born to Russell and Ellen (Gruntjes) Sherman on July 13, 1954. He was raised on a family farm just outside of Carrington, ND, along with 2 older sisters, 4 younger brothers, and 1 younger sister.
During his high school years, Rusty worked in his family’s plumbing business, quickly picking up the trade. After graduating high school, he continued plumbing and obtained his Journeyman license in 1976. He became known for his intelligence, strong work ethic, and willingness to help everyone. He was a consistent presence at the swimming pool every spring and fall, year after year, pivotal in ensuring that it would remain open for the kids to enjoy.
After 55+ years of serving his community, Rusty had worked on essentially every building in Carrington and most other buildings in the surrounding communities. He was an absolute master at his craft and was known to be able to fix or engineer virtually anything involving plumbing, heating and air conditioning units, and appliances. His meticulous quality and attention to detail were as iconic as his blue work truck, and his ingenuity was respected throughout the state. Rusty’s wealth of technical and historical knowledge is a tragic loss for the community. He will be greatly missed by many.
Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Russell (2012) and Ellen (2016). He is survived and loved by his children, Ashley, Beth, and Matthew; his grandchildren, Knox, Kinsley, Zander, Ari, and Ivy; his sisters, Margaret, Kathy, and Karin “Buffy”; his brothers, Jim, Glenn, Danny, and Mike; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home in Carrington, ND.
His Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery.
Following the burial, a time of Fellowship will be held at CB’s Bar, Carrington, ND.

So sorry to the Sherman family for your loss. Rusty was a great man. Best plumber I have ever seen plus a great friend. He will be missed by many.
We are saddened by the loss of Rusty. He was a wonderful man, and a dear friend. There wasn’t a heating system he couldn’t repair. Rest in peace Rusty. We will miss you.
Rusty was an absolute asset to the community and to the stray cat population. He was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
Rusty will be greatly missed. He was a great friend. He was always right there to help when something wasn’t running right when we owned the bar as well as at home. I spent alot of hours at his side when he was fixing things. I listened to every detail step….. by step….. of what was wrong and what he had to do to fix it. Still not sure if he explained all of that to me because I was actually going to remember it or he just wanted to me to stay there with him and visit. Hope it was the visiting because it went in one ear and out the other. I had no idea what he was talking about. Love and miss you Sherm, rest in peace.
Sorry to hear of Rusty’s passing. Hugs and prayers to all of his family.

Sherman Family:
Sorry to read of Rusty’s passing. He was a good friend and customer of ours at Western Steel & Plumbing. He was always a pleasure to call on and work with. A very pleasant , & happy person.
May God grant you peace and comfort at this time of loss.
My sincere condolences to the Sherman family. Rusty was certainly a chip off the old block, every bit as great of a man as his father Russell senior! These two great men served the Carrington community well and are the best part of its great history and progress going forward. Rusty’s celebration of life is well deserved!
