Dean Zink

Dean Edward Zink, born November 28, 1951, in Carrington, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 73. At the time of his passing, he resided in Carrington ND, leaving behind a legacy cherished by family and friends.

Dean graduated from Carrington High School in 1969 and attended college at the University of North Dakota.  Dean’s life was marked by his deep love for family and his passion for the land. On December 1, 1973, he married the love of his life, Becky, beginning a journey that spanned over five decades. Their partnership was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Dean’s devotion to his family was evident in his relationships with his children, Kirk (Karrie) and Jennifer (Randy), who brought immense joy and pride to his life.

A dedicated family man, Dean found his greatest joy in his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Oakly, Kenzie, and Korra Zink; Gannon and Maija Volk; Brooklyn, Wyatt, Adeline, and Harlow Aberle; Indya Volk; Jensyn Zink and Chase Fossum; Jore Volk; and Niko Zink were the lights of his life. Dean cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was attending activities, imparting wisdom, enjoying lake life, sharing stories or simply enjoying the lively presence of his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dean’s love for the land was evident in his passion for farming and raising cattle, a pursuit that connected him deeply to nature and the rhythms of rural life. His daily gator rides were a ritual he relished, offering moments of reflection and a chance to appreciate the beauty surrounding him. It was in these simple pleasures that Dean found fulfillment and peace.

Dean is survived by his immediate family as well as nine siblings including Peter Zink, Jane and Kevin Lura, Jerome and Patty Zink, Dan and Cindy Zink, Tom and Carmel Zink, Tony and Lori Zink, Mary T Roth, Wayne and DeAnna Zink, Bob and Julie Zink, brother-in-law Robert Miller as well as many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Dean is preceded in death by parents Russell and Cedy Zink, father and mother-in-law Wick and Yvonne Larson, brothers-in-law Steve Larson and Rick Roth and sisters-in-law Bonita Zink and Cindy Miller.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate a life well-lived, remembering the warmth, kindness, and steadfast love that Dean shared with all who knew him.  He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Dean’s memory will be honored at a Mass of Christian Burial held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Carrington, on April 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. His Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery and a Lunch will be served following the funeral and burial at the Chieftain for all family and friends.
