Otto Tofte
Otto Clarence Tofte, 80, of Sykeston, was called home on November 2nd, 2019 at St. Alexius hospital in Carrington, ND.
Otto was born on August 9th, 1939 in Grand Forks, ND to Clara (Moldeseter) and Ingvald Tofte. Otto grew up in Grand Forks, ND attending Central High School and then the ND State School of Science to become an electrician.
He worked as a mechanic performing auto repair as well as bodywork and made eyeglasses for a time. In 1961, Otto joined the Army Reserve where he trained to become a medic achieving the rank of Sergeant. Most of his career was spent repairing surveying instruments and various office equipment. He married Patricia Neumiller on January 11, 1969 in Sykeston, ND. They started their life together in Fargo, ND, where they had seven kids. In 2002, Otto and Patricia moved back to Patricia’s hometown in Sykeston, ND. He continued working at Bremer Bank in Carrington, a job he truly enjoyed.
Otto loved building things. He built his lake cabin (along with his father) and he and his wife’s home south of Fargo. He also loved fixing things, often bringing home soon-to-be treasures he picked up from basically anywhere. He spent a great deal of time enjoying a variety of interests with his wife, children and grandchildren including camping, road trips and lake cabin visits. His favorite hobby by far was trains. His love of trains started when he was a kid and grew to a point where he built his own small scale train driving it every summer in Itasca, MN for almost 20 years. You would invariably find him with a camera in his hand and a photo album in the other, so he could capture new special moments with family and friends while being able to show you all the others he enjoyed.
Otto is survived by his wife, Patricia (Neumiller) Tofte, his children Jason Tofte, Jennifer (Eric) Garland, Sara (Jason) Anderson. His seven grandchildren, Emma, Paige, Kayli, Olivia, Claire, Ashtyn and Amelia. His two brothers, Lloyd (Esther) Tofte and John (Mary) Tofte and his beloved dog, Holly.
Otto was preceded in death by his parents and his four children.
Visitation will be Thursday, 12:00PM-2:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 7, 2019, 2:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Otto I am talking to you, we have been best friends and we worked together side by side for almost sixty years. Otto, you and I solved a lot of world problems over coffee and I will really miss you. Some day we will have coffee together again. Your friend, Don.

My sympathies to the entire family for your loss. I am grateful for the days when my office was at the WDAY building and we often took coffee breaks together when we worked evenings. We shared some good laughs as he told stories about growing up with his brothers (3 brothers = trouble), one of which (Lloyd) is my brother-in-law. His storytelling manner reminded me so much of listening to his mother, Clara, whom I enjoyed dearly.

I have so many wonderful memories growing up with Jenny. Otto and Pat were my other set of parents. They always welcomed me into their home like I was one of the kids. This is such an incredible loss, I don’t have words to describe. He was loved by me. Sending my deepest love and sympathy to the entire family and friends. You will forever be in my heart.

Otto was one of the truly good guys I worked with over the years. He came to work every day, did his job very well and took care of the customers. He also did a lot of the extra things around the building. Drank a lot of coffee in their shop over the years, those were good times. So glad I was able to see him at his 80th BD not long ago. We lost a good one.

Pat…my heartfelt condolences to you and your family on Otto’s passing. Those days of the guys working together is long past but I always remember Bob speaking so highly of Otto’s ingenuity, dry humor, and dedication. I also remember you so well from those christmas parties of yesteryear. It’s been 8 years now that Bob has been gone and I can’t tell you it gets easier as the years pass and your life’s partner is no longer there for you, but kids and grandchildren help ease some of that. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. May God bless you and your family.
