Norma K. Neumiller, age 94, of rural Carrington, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home, where she resided with them.

Norma K. Neumiller was born on January 26, 1926, the daughter of Earl and Gladys (Foulston) Purcell in Rosehill Township, Stutsman County, ND. Norma attended the Rosehill Township country school and then lived with her Aunt Sis and Uncle Cap Bus in Omaha, Neb. for her teaching certificate. Norma returned to ND and taught at a country school in the Woodworth Area. Norma met Henry when she was teaching school and he worked for Farmers Union delivering fuel.

On January 20, 1949, Norma was united in marriage to Henry Neumiller in Terry, MT. They lived in Carrington for a short time until they bought a farm in 1951, in Stutsman County where they farmed and raised cattle and sheep.

Norma was a persistent caretaker of all the farm animal babies that struggled to nurse and get on their feet. There were many baby lambs and a few calves brought into the house to be nursed to health before they could be moved back to the barn with their mother. Norma raised many pail calves they purchased from the sales barn. She cared for them multiple times a day. Norma loved her chickens and guinea guard fowl. She gathered eggs and always made sure the birds were locked up at night away from predators.

Norma assisted Henry in farming tasks. She would run for parts, move equipment to different fields, drove grain trucks  and always took a full dinner and lunch to the fields every day that Henry was not able to come home to eat, which was most days as soon as spring work started, haying time and of course harvest time. Norma was a very hard worker and liked everything to be perfect.

Norma was an avid gardener raising all the vegetables for the family table and canned a lot of it. Her garden was spotless of weeds. She was also obsessed with ridding the yard of dandelions with her dandelion digger. Norma needed to be reminded several times to quit digging and quit for the day.

Norma was also a collector of rocks. She would walk the road many times after the grader had gone by and stirred up new treasures.

Norma looked forward to taking a break for coffee and cookies when her nephew, John Hennings stopped by.

She is survived by one son, Roderick (Jennifer) Neumiller, Hayden, CO; two daughters, Linda (Mike) Christensen and Roberta (Brad) Reisnour, both of Carrington; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; One brother, Donald (Kathy)Purcell of Big Timber, MT one sisters, Sheila O’Conell, Big Timber, MT, two sister-in-law’s Carrie Purcell, Carrington, ND, and Carolyn Purcell, Livingston, MT. one brother-in-law Cort Strobel, Big Timber, MT, and many nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband Henry, five brothers, Rawleigh, Clayton, Wallace and Bruce and an infant boy Henry Samuel Purcell. Four sister, Rosemary, Juanita, Doris, and Barbara. Her parents, Earl and Gladys. Seven brother-in-law’s Dave Myrstol, Virgil Hennings, Art Vraa, Bob O’Conell, Albert Auer, Ray Tracey, Fred Sands.

 

Visitation will be Thursday, 9:00AM-5:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

A Private Family Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 15, 2020, at 10:30AM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery.
