Lisa Schuster

Lisa Marie Schuster, 41, of New Rockford, ND, died June 16, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND surrounded by her family.

Lisa Schuster was born into this world by Paul and Sarah (Schafer) Schuster at Carrington, ND on March 8, 1979.  During her childhood years, Lisa was mothered by her step mothers Lisa (Doll) Schuster and Leona (Sherland) Schuster.  She was raised on a small farm just outside of New Rockford with her two brothers and dad, horses, pigs, dogs, snakes and multiple other little critters that surely instilled the love of all animals in Lisa.

Lisa attended New Rockford Public School until she graduated in 1997.  While in school Lisa worked multiple jobs to help support her family.  She enlisted in the National Guard in September, 1996 and served in the Guards until January, 2000 as a water purification specialist.  Lisa transitioned to the Army, Active Duty, straight out of the National Guard and served 4 tours overseas, being stationed in Germany, Iraq, Kosovo and Afghanistan.  Lisa was honorably discharged from the Army in March, 2005.  She received numerous awards, medals and certificates while in her 8 years of service.

After the military, Lisa re-entered the medical field using her CNA skills she learned while in high school and worked at Meritcare Hospital and later at the Prac’s Institute as a phlebotomist.  After later working with the Canadian Pacific railroad, she moved back to New Rockford and worked at Barlow Grain Elevator with her oldest brother and also as a bartender at several establishments.

Known as “Little One” by her Uncle Fred, Lisa was truly loved by all of her family.  She adored her nieces, nephews and sissy, and she always showed them how much she cared about them.  Her nieces and nephews helped her get through many hard days.  Lisa had the heart of gold and was willing to do anything for anyone who needed her help.

Lisa struggled the last 8 years of her life and fought a long hard battle with mental health issues, including PTSD, which led to the decline of her medical/physical health.  She was a medical miracle and survived more than most doctors ever expected.  She was a fighter.  Lisa will forever be remembered, honored and greatly missed.  Her infectious smile and contagious laugh was strong enough to end a war.  Lisa lost this one, her last battle and passed away peacefully on June 16, 2020.  May she now rest in peace.

Lisa is preceded in death by her grandparents, Milo and Ida Schuster, Aunt Jean and Uncle Simon Haman, Uncle Fred and Aunt JoAnn Schuster, Uncle Mike Miller and Aunt Diane Schafer.  She is survived by her dad, Paul (Leona) Schuster, brothers John (Jean) Schuster, Jesse (Michelle) Schuster, grandparents, step-sisters, Erin, Patricia Schwab and Angela (Travis) Sainsbury, multiple aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be one hour before the Funeral Service on Monday, June 22, 2020 at 2:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Burial will be at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bremen, ND.

  3. Lisa is a bright and beautiful soul, gone too soon. My condolences to her family and friends in this difficult time.
Lisa came into my life nearly 15 years ago when we worked together at Tecton Products in Fargo. We were both quite apprehensive of each other at first, but then we found out we were both small town country girls and had a lot in common!
We went on many adventures and road trips together. My favorite times will always be the weekends we spent in New Rockford. We went back-roading, coon hunting and had wonderful visits with family. One weekend we went sheep tipping, had a nut fry, and cuddled a baby bear! (I believe one of her uncles had a wild game farm.)
I will always remember her infectious smile and laugh, her beautiful free spirit, her fun loving ways and her thirst to live life to the fullest. Lisa was one of the strongest and most genuine people I’ve ever met. While we may have fallen out of touch the last several years, I thought about her often.
Fly free and rest easy, Lisa Marie! (She’d always pretend to be mad when I’d call her that!) Until we meet again!

  5. I served with Lisa actually in the photo above. Lisa, you taught me many things, but above all how to care for people. The weight of the world could be on your shoulders, but you would never know by the smile you would have. There is an undeniable strength you carried with you daily and I will always forever carry you in my heart. Love you forever and I’ll always be your “Peanut” & “P”.

She always demonstrated a positive attitude and a big smile regardless the conditions. Too sad finding out this way. I wish I had reach out to you before. My condolences to your family, you will be missed. To anyone out there suffering from similar conditions, you are not alone! Please talk to someone or seek professional help, 🙏
