Edgar Joseph Duda passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Carrington, ND, where he had resided since June 2019.

Edgar was born April 28, 1927, in Superior Township near New Rockford, North Dakota, to Ferdinand and Hilda Christ Duda. His mother passed away when he was 4 years old. His dad married Hazel Pierson and they had 5 children which were his half brothers and sister. He attended country school and lived on the family farm and also worked for area farmers.

Edgar is a veteran. In 1946 he enlisted and served 2 years in the Army Air Force. When stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC, he met Dorothy Chandler whom he married and had 3 children. He made his home in Sumter, SC, for many years and worked at Santee Print Works; also, as a mechanic, and worked on the largest turkey ranch in the SE.

In the fall of 1966, he moved his family to New Rockford, ND. A year later his wife moved back to SC, unable to withstand the harsh ND winters, and his children chose to stay with him. He farmed his own land and helped his brothers with their farming, raised cattle and pigs, as well as working at Weber Sand & Gravel and Peavey Elevator. He retired in 1990.

He loved his dogs dearly, especially Brownie, Jimmy, and Honey Bunny.

He is survived by his daughter, Maxine Hoppe, Carrington; son, Lawrence Duda, Carrington; grandchildren: Chuck Hoppe Jr. (Lea Ann), Carrington; Crystal Duda, Carrington; Darren Duda, New Rockford; Dustin Duda (Sondra), Cathay; Shawn Duda (Ashley), Fargo; and Shannon Duda, Jamestown; 12 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren; brother, Eugene Duda (Joan), Mt. Shasta, CA; and many neices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: mother, Hilda Duda; father, Ferdinand Duda; step mother, Hazel Duda; wife, Dorothy Duda; son, Donald Duda; half-brothers, LaVerne, Gerald, Lyle; half-sister, Arlys; grandchildren, Travis Hoppe, and Lisa Hoppe Zuraff.

Edgars Visitation will be Monday, from 12:00PM-2:00PM followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

His Burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford.

  6. I remember so well seeing Edgar and Vern sitting at the corner table by the window at the cafe visiting… I always enjoyed talking with him.. I am so sorry for your loss..
