Eugene “Gene” Edwardson

Eugene W. Edwardson, age 93, Carrington, ND, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 27, 2025 at CHI Carrington Medical Center, due to complications from congestive heart failure.

Eugene was born October 29, 1931, in Carrington, ND, to Olaf M. and Willett E. (Bonnie) Edwardson.  He was raised on the family farm in rural Carrington, and attended a one room school in Nordmore township through the 8th grade.  He worked on the family farm raising cattle, small grains, flax, and sunflowers.

On October 3, 1954, Eugene was united in marriage to Clara Ann Reise.  Eugene and Clara made their home on the family farm.  Eugene was a graduate of the National Radio Institute correspondence course where he learned to repair televisions, two-way radios, and small electrical appliances.  In addition to farming, he operated Eugene’s Electronics and Sound from the mid 1960’s through the mid 1980’s, in which he sold and serviced televisions, two-way radio systems, and also installed public address systems in several area churches.

Eugene was confirmed at Kvernes Lutheran Church of rural Carrington, where he was an active member for many years.  In later years, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington, and more recently attended Federated Church in Carrington.

Eugene enjoyed the outdoors, namely hunting deer, pheasant, and waterfowl.  In 2018, he had a North Dakota elk tag and successfully harvested a respectable bull elk.  He also enjoyed photography, drives in his Polaris Ranger, and watching the Outdoor channel on his big screen TV.  He had a jolly attitude and enjoyed making people laugh over his stories and humorous sayings.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clara; his son, Steven Edwardson and his wife Diane, West Fargo, ND; granddaughters Olivia Edwardson, and Megan (Eric) Johnson, Fargo, ND; sisters Nancy (Gary) Manuel, Houston, TX and Myrna Gullion, Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Martin), and a sister (Elinore).

In lieu of flowers, please designate donations to the cemetery fund of Kvernes Lutheran Church, rural Carrington.

Gene’s Visitation will be Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 1:00PM-2:00PM followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00PM all at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington.

His Burial will be at the Kvernes Cemetery, rural Carrington, ND.

  3. Eugene was a regular of mine at both Leevers and the Chieftain. He was a funny, God loving man who always had a story for me. I will forever miss hearing him tell me to “stay out of trouble kid, don’t work too hard, our religion doesn’t allow it”. I’ve known Eugene as long as I’ve been alive and his passing makes me feel like I lost a grandpa. The store will miss him, as will I. Many condolences to Clara and the family.

  5. Where to begin, so many memories. The stories of adventures you and Mom (Elinore) shared growing up together on the farm. The excitement of going to Grandpa and Grandma’s to play with Rusty and to be in the barn watching you milk cows (only a town kid). Jeep rides in the pasture as you and Dad shot gophers. You always had time for us, a constant in our lives. We’ve shared holiday dinners, family picnics, confirmations, graduations, weddings and funerals. I cherish the “tea times” at our house with you and Clara. Thank you for the time you spent with me as I sought to understand our ancestry. I’m so thankful that Tom and I had the opportunity to visit with you before you left. I’ll never eat a ‘chipper” (dark chocolate) without remembering you.

  6. My condolences to you and your family, Clara. I remember fun times with you and Eugene at your house while practicing for weddings. Bill passed away this last spring, but we both had a long run, didn’t we?

  8. My Brother, Eugene (Gene) was quite a talker, always happy, and full of life. I can remember when I was only about 5 or 6-years old and he would rise early in the morning to work in those beautiful wheat fields on our family farm, and it would never be a surprise for him to bring a baby bunny or even a baby skunk to set on my pillow and help to wake me up . . . it made me smile and giggle and start a good day. He told me stories on many topics; but the best thing he ever told me was the day he came to the Saving Knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ — a truly amazing story. We rejoiced together, that day, and now he gets to talk with Jesus in person. Oh, Happy Day! I Love You, my big brother “Gene” and hope you stay busy glorifying God and talking with all of our Loved Ones up there in Heaven with you. Remembering You Forever, Your Doctor Sister, Nancy.

  9. Hi – It’s me . . . your Sister, Liz (Myrna Liz, that is)! I’m so sorry you left so soon . . . I remember your singing, your songs, your quartet, your recordings and how you loved to sing for Jesus. I loved to sing with you; especially when we were young. You were my fun brother and I longed for one more visit with you. But since we really cannot be together, in person, today, I’m just going to say: “I love you and know for sure, that we will have mountains of time together ‘When We All Get to Heaven — What A Day of Rejoicing that Will Be . . .When We All See Jesus, We’ll Sing and Shout the Victory!'” I Love You, My Brother Gene – You have always been my Best Brother Yet!!! You even took me on a Cross-Country Snow Ski Adventure! Good Times!!

  10. Eugene always made me smile and laugh! He was my first traffic stop in Carrington! He wouldn’t stop for my lights and I had to chirp my siren. He pulled into his garage and got out and gave ME a hard time! Of course he talked his way out of that ticket and many more! Thanks for the friendship Eugene! You will be missed!
