Edwin L. Doeling
Edwin Doeling, age 88, of Carrington, ND, passed on to meet his Savior on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at CHI Carrington Medical Center in Carrington, ND after a short battle with Influenza.
Edwin Louis Doeling was born on January 12, 1931, the son of George and Evelyn (Krueger) Doeling of Bordulac, ND. Edwin was one of four children and grew up with Herman (Dick), Gene, and Dorothy. Edwin was raised on the family farm, attended school in Bordulac, ND where he enjoyed playing baseball. Edwin graduated in 1949 from Bordulac High School and briefly attended university before returning home to work the family farm and dairy.
On November 27, 1953 Edwin was united in marriage to Dolores Ann Pedersen in Kensal, ND. From that union came three children, Gary, Barbara, and David.
Edwin was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Carrington. Edwin’s faith was strong and he supported his church in any manner he could. He especially enjoyed being part of Lutheran Laymen’s League and attended many conferences where he became life – long friends with many other attendees.
Edwin enjoyed many areas of life. He loved to meet and hold all of the newest grandchildren and later great grandchildren. He was fortunate to have celebrated an early birthday this past summer where his gift was a family reunion with a multitude of pictures with the generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Edwin also enjoyed farming and he liked nothing better than to drive tractor and went from planting seeds to harvesting the mature plants. It was not unusual to have a very young Charles or Tyler in one of the farm tractors or combine, helping direct the truck drivers when chopping corn or harvesting the plants at least until Edwin graduated them to driving the farm vehicles themselves. In later years he was content to dig the soil and especially learned to like GPS to help guide the tractor.
Once Edwin retired from active farming, his brother Gene and he cleaned up the farm and sold much scrap iron from those activities. It was not often that he missed a day at the farm when weather permitted.
Edwin loved to play Pinochle and both Dolores and he taught their children and grandchildren how to seriously play the game. The family believes his lucky partners were grandson’s Charles and Benjamin who could also play hour after hour. All family members had a good deck of Pinochle cards and they were always taken out to play after a holiday meal.
Edwin is survived by his daughter Barbara Scheen, his son David (Clarine), and a daughter-in-law Mariann, all of Carrington; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by two brothers, Herman (Dick) of Pensacola, Florida formerly of Carrington, Gene (Hannelore) of Carrington, and one sister, Dorothy Funden of Newport, WA, sister-in-law Marilyn Norsby of Kent, WA, a special aunt Lorraine Schroeder, and many nieces and nephews.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, George and Evelyn Doeling, his wife Dolores, his son Gary, one son-in-law Dave Scheen, and one sister-in-law Shirley (Herman) Doeling and four brothers-in-law Ray Funden, Darryl & Dalton Pedersen, and Ken Norsby. It is with great comfort and delight they will all be together.
In lieu of flowers/plants, the family requests memorials given to Lutheran Laymen’s League, Lutheran Ministries, or CHI St. Alexius Carrington Medical Center Foundation Greatest Needs.
Visitation: will be Wednesday, 9AM-5PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, and from 6-7PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington.
Funeral Service: will be held Thursday, January 24, 2:00PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington.
