Joseph Eversvik
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Joseph Wayne “Joe” Eversvik, 75, passed away Thursday night, October 12, 2023 north of Sheyenne as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Joe was the third child born to Joseph O. and Mary (Borthwick) Eversvik on September 30, 1948, at City Hospital in New Rockford, ND.
He grew up with his sister and two brothers on the family farm east of Sheyenne where they raised cattle, pigs, chickens and planted wheat, oats, barley, corn, and sunflowers. He was active in 4-H which involved showing cattle and crop judging.
He attended Rocky Mountain #2 grade school through 6th grade. In the 7th grade, he began attending Sheyenne Public School, graduating in 1967.
On March 30, 1973, Joe was set up on a blind date going bowling in Jamestown with Lynette Gloria Huebner. They were united in marriage on February 2, 1974, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Jamestown.
Together they had two children, Candy Jo and Jennifer Lynn, who they raised on the family farm while Joe farmed and raised cattle with his dad. In 1998, Joe and Lynette purchased Sheyenne Grocery which they owned and operated until 2004. In 2004, Joe started working as a security guard at the Spirit Lake Casino south of Devils Lake on the night shift and was still working there at the time of his death.
Joe was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford; served on Eddy County Farm Bureau; served on the Sheyenne School Board for many years; was a volunteer with the Sheyenne Rural Fire Department; and was also a substitute bus driver.
Joe loved dogs, cats (affectionately referred to as “cat mother” by his mom, Mary) and had a way with kids. In fact, he was a big kid at heart. He loved tinkering with all kinds of toys, especially ones that had sirens and flashing lights! He was very fun-loving with a witty sense of humor. He loved to tell jokes and stories.
Joe was a very kind, generous, and caring man with a genuine heart who would do anything to help others. He brought so much love and laughter to all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Lynette (New Rockford); his daughters, Candy (Jason) Smith and Jenny (Jason) Gruebele (all of Jamestown); four grandchildren, Dylan (Fargo) and Alexis Smith (Bismarck), Hayley and Hudson Gruebele (both of Jamestown); his sister, Ardis (Arnie) Weber (Thornton, CO); brothers, Roger (Barb) Eversvik (Warwick) and Rick (Leona) Eversvik (New Rockford); brother-in-law, Stan (Judy) Huebner (Jamestown) and sister-in-law, Jo Huebner (Jamestown); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe O. and Mary Eversvik; brother-in-law, Steve Huebner.
Joe’s Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023 from 1:00-4:30PM at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford and will continue from 6:00-6:30PM with a Rosary at 6:30PM followed by a Vigil Service at 7:00PM all at St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford, ND.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 10:00AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford, ND.
His Burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Rockford, ND.

Lynette and family were are so sorry to hear about the loss of Joe. He was very helpful to get our hay home to the farm for many years and also cutting our sweet clover for hay in the dry years. We were on the school board together for many years also. Even if we had disagreements and even a little temper at a meeting afterwards, we were still friends not holding grudges. I will remember him as a big man with a bigger heart. My condolences to you Candy and Jennifer and your families
