Kim Grace
Kim was born on January 23, 1954, in Oak Park, IL. He was the son of Katherine (Gross) and John P. Grace.
Kim attended and graduated from St. Gregory High School. After graduation, Kim enlisted and served on active duty in the army from 1972–75 and served in Germany during the Cold War, serving in a tank unit patrolling along the Czech border. Having served faithfully and honorably, Kim retired from the United States Army National Guard on January 23, 2014. Having served from 1978 through 1996. Kim worked for the city of Chicago Water and Sewer Department until his retirement. The day he retired, he fulfilled his dream to move to New Rockford, where he made many good friends and rekindled old friendships. Everyone knew Sarge!
Sarge loved the military, which turned his love of the military into a hobby. He enjoyed going to military shows all over to various states, as well as, making new friends along the way. Sarge loved to hunt and fish. He especially enjoyed his pheasant trips with his cousins. He loved watching westerns and war movies. No one matched his wits for western and military trivia.
Sarge could be described as this rough, tough man; but deep down, he was a soft–hearted teddy bear that would have given the shirt off his back to someone in need.
A special thanks to Ashby Living Center and all the staff where they took Sarge in and made him part of their family. A special thanks to all the staff who cared for Sarge at the Lutheran Home of Good Shepherd.
Sarge was a member of the American Legion, New Rockford Eagles Club, and Central ND Steam Threshers.
Kim is survived by: Greg, brother; sister–in–law Sanling Ran. Amy, niece; Erik, nephew; and many cousins.
Kim was preceded in death by: His parents.
Memorials may be given to the New Rockford Cemetery.
His Visitation will be Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 12:00PM – 5:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 10:00AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford.
His Burial will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Rockford.

R.I.P brother
I served with Sergeant Grace in the 80’s and 90’s at the 108th Support Battalion, 33rd Infantry Brigade. He was a good friend and an outstanding Soldier. I am saddened to hear of his passing. Rest In Peace, Soldier. 🇺🇸
Sarge was indeed like family at The Ashby Living Center. He made us laugh and roll our eyes most days. He wanted you to think he was a tough guy but we all knew he had a huge heart. Sarge was extremely proud of his time in the service and showed extreme respect for others who served. He loved his family especially his cousin Laurie. We heard many heartfelt stories about his time in ND. Rest In Peace our dear friend.
Keep them smiling in the Fiddler’s Green. You will be missed.
Sarge was a Great friend and a even better person. No task was too large for him to help a friend in need out. He will be missed immensely.
I can hardly say the final goodbye. Knew Kim for forty years and more. Farewell, old friend. Fair winds ….
Served with Kim in TroopE, 106th Cav. I have a picture of him, my twin brother (passed 1997) & myself. A better soldier, a better person, a better friend could I ever find than my very good friend Kim. We always kidded him by calling him “CHUD”. RIP my brother.
Uncle Kim was a presence in my life since I was a little girl. Always kind to me and attended birthdays and special celebrations for me and our family, always baring a generous gift.
RIP Sarge
Sarge was a real presence , I always knew when he walked into the cafe he would have a good story or joke to tell. I always enjoyed talking to him at the cafe…… so sorry to hear of his passing
I as well serve with Kim in E troop 106 cavalry. he was a great mentor as well as a great friend. I laugh to hear his nick name CHUD from Ed Nicklaus this was the truth.
REST IN PEACE Buddy
God bless American and all of those who serve her.
We, the citizens, know we don’t deserve her
Wheather you go over hill and dale
Or if you sing “Anchors aweigh”
The United States military is why
Our country is still here today.
To those who fought in Tripoli
And those who fly into younder blue
We thank you for your service
And your devotion true.
To those who guard the homeland
And are always prepared
You, too, are to be honored
For responsibility shared
To protect and serve the young and old
And even those who doubt you.
Our freedom, sovereignty, faith and hope
Would not exist without you.
So, stars and stripes forever,
In freedom may you wave
For our land will be free
As long as some are brave.
Kim we honor you today
Thank you for your years of military Service.
We are Blessed to have you in our Family.
You are loved dearly by family & many friends world-wide
Love Darlene
