Delano McKay, age 36, of Sheyenne, ND, died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Delano was born April 2, 1988, in Rapid City, SD, the son of Roger McKay Sr. and Lois Twobulls.

Delano attended school in Flandreau Indian Boarding School, then continued at Four Winds High School where he graduated and received his diploma that he was very proud of. After high school he joined Spirit Lake Firefighters and went to rookie training in Montana.  After he finished, he moved to Sheridan, WY with his brother Lynn and started employment at Pizza Hut for a year, then moved back to Spirit Lake where he worked for Genuine Builder doing concrete.  Delano did various jobs at the Spirit Lake Casino & Resort, he loved to keep himself busy and spend time with family and friends.  Delano met Raeann Jerome and started his own family.  They made their home in Ross Acres, where he helped her raise her three boys, Hansome, Wesley & Weston BirdHorse.  Soon after that, they made three wonderful children of their own, Delante, Zurayah, and the late Jerome McKay.  Later he had another son, Elijah Cavanaugh.  Delano’s most recent employment was working for Gordy Nelson, he really loved his job working on the farm.

He is survived by Raeann Jerome; his father, Roger McKay Sr.; his mother, Lois Twobulls; children, Delante, Zurayah McKay and Elijah Cavanaugh; step-sons, Hansome, Wesley Jr., & Weston Birdhorse; grandbabies, Alayah & McKaylee McKay; sisters, Robbie and Angie McKay & Shannon Aguilar both of Los Angeles, CA, Radell Whitetail, Maria Snell, and Shanae Brave of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Kelly (Jean) McKay, Roger (Busty) McKay Jr., Byron Littleghost, Lynn (Chelsey) McKay, Sheldon Twobulls, Cyrus Brave, Dylon Brave, and Yamni Brave all of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, Tia McKay, Brooklyn Medicinestone, Darbie Azure, Felicia, Savannah & Naveah Burg of Sioux Falls, SD, Precious Love Two Bulls, Luciella Two Bulls, Kylee, Kya, Kayza, Kaylecia, Kaleya McKay, and several more; nephews, Rainin (Victoria) McKay & Bryson (Jamie) McKay, David Azure III, Julian McKay, Drayden Two Bulls, Rocky & several more; aunts, Ramona (John) Chaske, Shelly Twobulls, Lorraine McKay, Deanna McKay, & Zeda McKay; uncles, Corby McKay, Ronnie (Connie) McKay, Marvin Twobulls, Murray McKay of Hawaii, Pete Bissonette, Terry Twobulls, all of Sioux Falls, SD, & Darnell Twobulls.

Delano was preceded in death by Pete Twobulls Sr., Georgeline McKay, Kassie McKay, Kassie McKay, son Jerome Kurt McKay, Kenny McKay and Justin Schlepp Jr.

Delano’s Visitation will be Tuesday at 5:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at Fort Totten Rec. Center, Fort Totten, ND.

Friends wishing to join the procession from New Rockford to Ft. Totten may gather on the St. Jerome’s road, Fort Totten, prior to 4:15PM.

A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 10:00AM at Fort Totten Rec, Center, Fort Totten, ND.

His Burial will be at the Bdecan Cemetery, Tokio, ND at a later date.
