Robert “Pat” Nihill
Robert “Pat” Nihill, 88, Kensal, ND died Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Carrington Health Center.
Pat Nihill was born March 20, 1936, in Kensal, ND, the son of John W. and Myrtle (Syvertson) Nihill. He was raised in Kensal and attended rural school and later Kensal High School, graduating in 1956. After graduation, he attended college at Wahpeton, ND. Pat returned to Kensal and farmed with his parents until taking over the Nihill homestead in rural Foster County raising small grain. On December 20, 1968, he married Gertrude Sherlock in Carrington, ND. Pat returned to cattle ranching in 1995 and continued until he retired in 2011. Pat cherished the memories of his days with the cattle and being able to share them with his grandchildren as he was a true cowboy at heart. Pat’s red pickup became his trusty companion after retirement as he roamed the countryside, stopping to share stories and catch up with old friends. Each visit was a chance for Pat to relive the adventures of his younger days and to just see what everyone was up to.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; 2 children: Bob Nihill, Bismarck, ND and Billie Jo (Shawn) Neumiller, Carrington, ND; grandchildren: Ashley Neumiller, Abbey Neumiller, Austin Neumiller, & Aaron Neumiller; 2 siblings: Jean (Kenneth) Nelson, Fargo, ND & Sandra Balvitsch, Carrington, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Jack, & Tom; one sister, Shirley Nihill; and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Nihill.
Pat’s Visitation will be Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 12:00PM-1:00PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00PMall at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

I ROGER PACER I’m sending me deepest Condolence to the PAT NIHILL family for your great lose. Pat was a gentleman at heart,Pat will be missed
I will miss Pat dearly, he was like an older brother that I never had. Over the years we were in touch by phone or when I could visit. I will miss all the drives we took to check the crops around Kensal and visit neighbors, then stopping at Bordulac for a cold one then back home for Gertie’s home cooked meal. Life was good!!! Rest in peace
So sorry for your loss Gerty I will miss the colorful stories over the septic lid RIP cowboy
