Theresa Owlboy
Theresa “Tari” Owlboy, age 58 of Devils Lake, ND passed away peacefully on January 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own home.
Theresa was born to Orville Tostenson and Yvonne Cowan (Tofsrud) on March 4, 1965. She grew up in rural Church’s Ferry, and attended school there. She enjoyed her many jobs helping at the Spirit Lake Casino, Sweetwater Elementary School, Crossroads Café, Lunchbox Café, and Upump. Tari met her husband Peter Owlboy Sr. and they were married in 1988. They were blessed with five children together and later welcomed two more, Peter Jr., Sarah, Jared, Traci, Isaac, Sydni, and Samuel.
Theresa loved spending time with her family, especially her 15 grandchildren. She was a friend to all and loved to visit with anyone who made time. She loved cooking and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren some of her famous recipes. Theresa enjoyed having her granddaughters, Ariya and Phenix over to help “clean up” her house. They would brush her hair for her, and whatever else they were willing to do, she loved being cared for. Theresa recently enjoyed working with son Peter Jr., Keisha, Jared, Sarah, and grandkids on a food stand at many pow-wows. She spent a lot of time listening to God’s word at the Zion Lutheran Church, as well as the First United Methodist Church. One of her favorite summertime activities was cheering on her daughters, Traci and Sydni as they played softball. Tari loved animals but she had a close connection with Jared’s dog, Kuzma. Anytime Kuzma was around she brightened Tari’s day right up. Tari was always making sure that Kuzma had food to eat, water to drink, and just company overall. Kuzma will definitely miss her as well.
We will always remember our mother as a strong person. She had endeavored so much within the last few years regarding her health but she never let that stop her from living life to the fullest.
Theresa is survived by her children, Peter Jr. (Keisha), Sarah, Jared, Traci (Tronis), Isaac (Abby), Sydni (Leyton) Owlboy, and Samuel Bull; special friend and ex-husband, Peter Owlboy Sr.; step mother, Karen Tostenson; grandchildren, Brayden, Marquel, Luke, Adam, Camden, Vera, Toni, Dominic, Star, Ellie Jo, Xavier, Ariya, Phenix, Kylen, and Tyree; siblings, Debbie Buechler (Pastor Robert), and Ranae Browning; uncles, Roger, Glen, and Duanne Tofsrud; nieces, Rachael, Brittni and nephew, George III.
Theresa was preceded in death by her mother, Yvonne Cowan; stepfather, Gordon Cowan; father, Orville Tostenson; cousin, Troy Tofsrud and nephew, Benjamin Buechler.
Theresa’s Visitation will be January 18, 2024, at 6:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 19, 2024, at 10:00AM at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake, ND.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tari’s family and friends at this sad time. I have so many memories of Tari, her sister Debbie and my sister LeAnna growing up. When we were kids we played games outside like kick the can and hide and seek, went campng she loved riding the motorbike around the parks, had lots of sleepovers, talked on the CB radio with whoever answered, rode around town in the back of her dad’s pickup truck, wrote plays and performed them. I know she was so proud of and loved of all of her kids, grandchildren and family. She is now in heaven watching over all of you and pain free. Love you Tari R.I.P ❤️
Peter Sr. & kids, I am so sorry for your loss. I saw you mom & dad a few weeks ago and got to visit a bit (caught up on you kids!). it was nice to be able to see them both and catch up with both. Behave now & watch over your dad. Keep your family together! Rest In Peace Tari, 🕊️ You deserve it. We will see you again when it’s our turn.
My condolences to Tari’s family, known her over 40 years… she was always so nice and easy to talk to. Cherish your memories❤️RIP Tari🌺
Condolences to the family and friends of Tari. Prayers to all, rest peacefully Tari. 🙏🏼
I have so many memories of Tari while we were growing up. We were all like sisters Bunny, Debbie, Tari and I. On a surprise visit to Tari she said it’s like we were never apart. We all picked up our conversations like no time had passed between us. Tari loved her kid’s and grandkids so much. She will truly be missed. I will see you again my friend. Forever in my heart. I’m so glad I have years worth of texts from you and that I told you many times that I loved you. I will continue to pray for your kid’s and grandkids. Love always. LeAnna
Tari was such a kind person and a great mom. She loved her family so much. My condolences to your family on the loss of Tari. May she rest in peace.
