Evelyn F. (Mazakahomni) Ross entered life on July 19, 1927 in Woodlake, ND to her loving parents Anna Sipto and James Mazakahomni, a descendent of Chief Sipto.  On July 18, 2023, Evelyn passed away peacefully in her sleep with her loving family at her side, a day before her 96^th birthday.

Evelyn had one brother Phillip and she was raised in the St. Michael area.  She attended school at the Calvary Square in Fort Totten, ND.  Evelyn was united in marriage to John Ross in October 1948 in Minnewaukan, ND and spent 51 loving years together.  John passed away in June of 1999.  They had 6 children, MaryAnn, Elaine, Pete, Glen, Curtis and Rowena.  They also adopted Tyrone Ross and Bishop Michael Cole as their sons.

Her husband John took on jobs in Los Angeles, CA and Cleveland, OH, having the family relocate with him to those areas, the family eventually moved back to the Spirit Lake Nation and this is where Evelyn would call Woodlake, ND her home.  Evelyn was a cook helper at Four Winds School but spent a lot of her lifetime as a home maker, raising her children and plenty of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, if she could, she would have raised all of them.

Evelyn spent a majority of her time at home watching TV and enjoying time with her family.  She also enjoyed sitting outside and watching cars go by.  Our mom and grandma is far from our hearts but we will look forward to each day knowing one day, we will meet her again and be greeted by her loving open arms.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Elaine Ross, Rowena Ross, Curtis Ross and Bishop Michael Cole; 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren.

She is welcomed home by her parents, Anna Sipto and James Mazakahomni; husband, John Ross; sons, Glen Ross, Peter Ross and Tyrone Ross; daughter, MaryAnn BlackBull; grandchildren, Nico Ross; great grandchildren, Nycoy Paulson, Zane Ross, Allan Ironhawk and Jordyn Blueshield and brother, Phillip Mazakahomni.

Evelyn’s Visitation will be Sunday, July 23, 2023 from 5:00PM-7:00PM followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00PM all at the St. Michael Tek. Center, St. Michael, ND.

Friends wishing to join the procession from New Rockford to St. Michael may gather on the St. Jerome’s road, Fort Totten, prior to 4:15PM.

Services will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 with a Final Review at 9:45AM followed by a Funeral Service 10:00AM at the St. Michael Tek. Center, St. Michael, ND

Her Burial will be at the Ross Family Cemetery, rural Sheyenne, ND.
