Doreen Taylor
Doreen Ann Taylor, age 87, former resident of New Rockford, ND passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025 in Bismarck, ND.
Doreen was born on March 23, 1937 in New Rockford to Oswald and Signe Lee. She was raised in New Rockford where she graduated high school. During her high school years, Doreen enjoyed spending time with her friends, many who she remains in touch with. She was a twirler and she loved to show her grandchildren and great grandchildren her hidden talent. She graduated from New Rockford High School and while attending Concordia College Doreen met Roy through her brother Roger. They were married on September 8, 1957 at First Lutheran Church in New Rockford. They continued to live in New Rockford where they raised their four children. Doreen enjoyed watching her children in their sports and music. She was always their biggest fan, except for football. She got way too nervous watching the boys play football! She spent many summers with Roy and the kids “at camp” while he worked on the road. Once the children were old enough for school she began working at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd as a receptionist where she would continue to work for 35 years. She loved being the smiling face that greeted each person who walked through the door.
Doreen had many activities that she enjoyed doing and most of them involved Roy, her children, and grandchildren. She attended many games and recitals throughout her life. Doreen also enjoyed gardening with Roy and they would spend many summer evenings working in their garden and sitting on their back patio. She had recently began making quilts and gifted one to each grandchild when they graduated high school and great grandchild when they were born. A favorite week for Doreen was always the week spent at the lake with the family. She was fortunate to have gifted that to her kids and grandkids for 27 consecutive summers. She was always a nervous wreck when Roy was on the jet ski or the grandchildren were tubing.
A great part of Doreen’s life was music. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in New Rockford her entire life and was the organist for most of those years. She also enjoyed baking and delivering her goodies to all her friends, especially at Christmas. Her family was especially fond of her ginger snaps and they were always the first to go at the lake.
Roy and Doreen moved to Bismarck in 2017 where she joined a water aerobics class and other exercise groups she really enjoyed. They would travel down to Arizona as often as they could. She recently traveled to Belize and Cancun. She loved being in the sun whether at the lake, the pool or the ocean and drinking her coffee by the water.
Doreen is survived by her children, Mary (Sheldon) Weltz, Mandan, ND, Steven (Tita), Phoenix, AZ, David (Dawn), Grand Island, NE, and Daniel (Breanne), Valley City, ND. She loved her grandchildren, Stephanie, Leah (Derrick) Kessler, Anthony, Tonya, Zackary, Lauren, Madison, McKenna, Mitchel and Miles. She really enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren, Laikyn, Kenzly, Jaxon Roy, and Stetson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in both the US and Canada along with her Canadian sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty McInnis, Phyllis Taylor, Dorothy Taylor, Liz Taylor, and Dennis McDonald. Doreen also was close with many of her cousins and their families. She cherished the phone calls and visits from all.
Doreen was proceeded in death by her husband of 63 years, Roy, her parents, Oswald and Signe, her brother and his wife, Roger and Verna Lee, and her Canadian brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eldon and Helen Taylor, Keith Taylor, Malcolm Taylor, Roland Taylor, Jessie McDonald, and Milt McInnis.
In leu of flowers, donations made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Doreen’s Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00-6:00PM with family present from 4:00-6:00PM all at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:30AM at First Lutheran Church, New Rockford, ND.
Her Burial will be at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Prayers from the Whetham family to yours. Doreen was a very special person. Any time that you came in the front door of the LHGS, Doreen was there with a smile. If you were looking for some one’s room, she would either direct you or take you there herself. She was also fantastic at playing the Church organ and piano. Anytime that Roy and Doreen were coming to Botno, they checked with my Mom to see if she had anything that needed dropping off for me. Memories will help with the loss of such a beautiful person.
RIP Doreen as you are greeted by family and friends as you enter your next journey.
