David Timm, 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at his home in Carrington, ND.

David was born May 5, 1939, to Harold and Lyd Timm in Hutchinson, MN.  He grew up in Arlington, MN, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  After he graduated from high school in 1957, David went to college at Gustavus Adolphus at St. Peters, MN, and then on to the University of Minnesota for Pre-law.  The selective service was going to call, so David answered his call to duty and joined the Air Force. He was stationed at the Minot Air Force Base where he served as an air traffic controller. In 1964 David married Claudia Stokes. He was discharged from the military in 1966, after which they moved to Arlington, MN, where he joined his father in the grain elevator business.  After the elevator was sold in 1976, they moved to Carrington where he worked for Gerber Industries as a sales representative, as well as a designer of agriculture elevator equipment until he retired.

David loved hunting, fishing and music.  He was a wonderful musician who toured with his own band in college. His favorite band was Whoopee John, as well as other Big Bands. David would hunt and fish in Canada, MN and ND with his Labrador retrievers.  He always had a Labrador for a companion to train, hunt with and enjoy with Claudia.  His black labs were most dear to him.

David is survived by his wife Claudia, sisters-in-law, Carolyn Geston, Bismarck, ND, Ivy (Bruce) Parizek, Chippewa Falls, WI, and Barb Rathjen, Hazen, ND, and brother-in-law Marlin (Joanne) Stokes, Carrington, ND, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law John Geston and Darrell Rathjen, Judd and Emma Stokes and many of his black labs.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, ND.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 9:30AM – 10:30AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30AM all at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington.

Burial will be at the Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, ND.

  1. Claudia, So sorry to hear of David’s passing. He was always enjoyable to visit with. And I still remember when I was still living at home and he thought I was you and sicced your dog on me. Scared me to death, poor dog was trying to jump on me to lick my face. He was so mortified when he realized it was not you, gave me a good laugh for a long time.

  6. Dear Claudia,
Larry and I extend our condolences to you. David was my 1st cousin. While growing up in Arlington I had many opportunities to see him. However, as we all aged that stretched out to years until we moved to Remer and saw him in Longville and when our Timm cousins from South Dakota arranged a gathering in Walker, both times were when you were in Hackensack. We have now moved back south to Henderson, Mn.
Marcia (Timm) Blatchford notified us of his passing.
Unfortunately, we will not be attending the visitation or funeral.

  13. I am so sad to see in the Arlington paper that David has passed away. He was my first friend when we moved to Arlington. I was in 2nd grade & he was in 3rd grade. He lived down the block & when we moved to the other side of town, David & his mom & dad moved across the street. So, we remained friends through high school. I remember him playing his saxaphone on the front porch. He was so talented & such a good person. That was many years ago!
My thoughts & prayers are with you at this sad time.
