Albert “Al” Trader

Al Trader, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Fairview Hospital, Minneapolis, MN.

Al was born on November 17, 1956, in Valley City, ND, to Albert and Jean Trader. Al grew up in the Valley City / Oriska, ND area, attending and graduating from Oriska High School in 1975. After graduation, Al attended Wahpeton State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND.

On July 29, 1978, Al married Sandy Holden in Valley City. They made their home in various communities, finally settling in Carrington in 1982. Al worked at various jobs, including Lillegard and RD Offutt, eventually working at Rosenau/Leading Edge in Carrington. Al was following in his dad’s footsteps selling yellow and green John Deere! Al worked at Rosenau/Leading Edge for 42 years, retiring in March of 2023. He made many lifelong friends, many who started out as his customers. Al was very proud of having sold to multiple generations of some families.

Al and Sandy loved to travel, especially the trips to Hawaii and the cruises. They made many friends along the way. Being involved in their community, kids’ sports and his beloved Cardinals was something Al was passionate about. Al was on many committees, including the City Council and the Church Foundation Board.

Family, friends, and especially supporting and encouraging all the kids in the community were so important to Al. His encouragement to boost up the kids in the community was to “don’t quit”.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sandy; siblings, Judy Horne of Grand Forks, ND, Cindy (Tim) Siegel, Moorhead, MN, Terry (Judy) Trader, Pelican Rapids, MN; brothers-in-law, Gene Klinger, Vermillion, SD, and Brian Strum, Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; Steve (Laure) Goetz with daughter Melissa; special friends of Sandy and Al, Dale, Sarah, Abby, Kaitlyn, and Dylan Wangrud, Valley City, ND; Angel Melissa; and all the young people from the community who have touched Al’s life.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; sisters, Linda Klinger and Becky Strum; brother, Jimmy Robinson; brothers-in-law, Wendell Horne and Ron Holden; and nephew, Johnny Horne.

His Visitation will be Tuesday, from 1:00PM-4:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, and will continue from 5:00PM-6:00PM at the church and a Prayer Service at 6:00PM all at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND.

His Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 10:30AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, ND.

  8. Sandy, I am so sorry for your loss. I got to learn how special Al was while serving on church council, and how fun he was while bowling with him. Brenda and I still try to be like “ten pin Al” and pick up the 10 pin on a spare. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.

  14. Papa, you are so so missed. Thank you for sharing your loving heart with me! You fought a good fight Papa and in the end, you still won! It may be different than what we on earth had hoped and prayed for, but you are living in eternal peace now! You earned your wings and have been promoted to Heaven with our Father! Well done! That is something we all strive for, or should strive for. I know I do. I cry for me because I miss you. I cry for Mamma because she misses you. But Papa, I am REJOICING with you because you are in heaven, living pain free and whole again and I KNOW I WILL see you again! I love you forever and always so so much Papa! ~Your Sunshine girl

Mamma, I love you so so much. I can only imagine how MUCH this hurts for you. You and Papa have touched SO MANY lives and I KNOW you will continue to do just that. May God strengthen you, comfort you, give you His perfect peace and heal your aching heart. I love you BIG BUNCHES! ~Angel Melissa
