Shirley Ann Westby passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND, on Sunday, March 2, 2025, with her family by her side at the age of 94.

Shirley was born February 28, 1931, the third child of John and Bernice Kruger.  She had four sisters and one brother.  Shirley grew up in Sheyenne, attended grade school in a country school, and graduated from Sheyenne High School in 1948.  She attended college at Mayville State University for one year and taught school in the country school that she had previously attended.

On July 30, 1950, Shirley was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Sherman Westby.  They moved to Minot where Sherman was employed as a carpenter.  While in Minot, their first 2 children were born, Kathryn Jean and Steven Wayne.  They then moved back to Sheyenne, and Sherman started his own business, Westby Construction, in 1958.  Shirley did the books for the construction business while raising her family.  Shirley’s three other children were born, Neil Sherman, Paula Jo, and Ross Alan.  Sherman and Shirley went to Arizona during the winter months for 17 years.  She loved to read, cook and bake, and her favorite restaurant was Mexican.

Shirley’s faith was very important in her life.  She enjoyed her Bible study groups and her friends.  Blessed be her memory.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Neil (Laurel) Westby of Sheyenne, ND, and Ross (Kristi) Westby of Phoenix, AZ; her daughter, Paula (Mark) Seiler of New Rockford, ND; a son-in-law, Larry Swenson of Langley, WA; her grandchildren, Tim (Nicole) Swenson, Brent Swenson, Mallory (Dustin) Anton, Erin (Paul) Cochran, Scott (Dara) Westby, Derrick (Courtney) Seiler, Jordan (Ashley) Seiler, Tate (Anna) Westby, and Keagan Westby; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Swenson, Matthew Swenson, Joseph Swenson, Willow Seiler, Camden Westby, Lennon Westby, Sutton Cochran, Hallie Seiler, and another great-grandbaby on the way; two siblings, Maxine Olson and Stanley (Marilynn) Kruger; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sherman; one daughter, Kathryn; one son, Steven; and her sisters, Fern Georgeson, Marian Lewis, and Darlene Daugherty.

A special thank you to the nursing and hospice staff at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd for their kind care, compassion, and gentle treatment they gave to Shirley.

Shirley’s Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00-5:00PM at Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford, ND.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 7, 2025, at 10:30AM at First Lutheran Church, Sheyenne, ND.

Her Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne, ND.
