Adeline Neumiller

Adeline (Kurtz) Neumiller was born on a farm in rural Cathay, Wells County, on August 21, 1920 to William and Hulda (Cellmer) Kurtz. She died at the age of 89 in Carrington, North Dakota on June 25th, 2010, with her husband and children by her side.

Adeline grew up on her parents' farm and attended school in Cathay, ND, where she graduated from the 8th grade. She and Rudy Neumiller were married in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sykeston, ND on November 9, 1944. They farmed in the Sykeston area until 1980, when they moved into town. They moved to Carrington in the fall of 2007.

Adeline was the eldest child in her family, and was very fond of her brothers and sister. She was strong minded, as was her mother, and also gentle and patient, like her father. She was a devoted and loving daughter, farm wife, and mother who taught her children the value of hard work and being kind and considerate toothers. (Sometimes even to milk cows!) Her farm home was often visited by her children's many friends and cousins. She had over 40 nieces and nephews, and many of them spent considerable time at her home and became very close to her.

Adeline loved gardening and flowers, and all things that Sykeston and country living represented. Adeline was a tireless worker at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Sykeston, where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Thanks to her joy of sewing and crocheting, every member of her family is the proud owner of at least one quilt or afghan. Extended family and friends looked forward to newsycards and letterspenned in her excellent handwriting. She was a wonderful cook, and many family holiday meals were held in her home. Her apple pie was a favorite.

To the end, her main concern was the well-being of her husband. She will be deeply missed by her children, her extended family, and her many friends, but it was her abiding faith and sincere belief that we will all be together once again.

Adeline is survived by her husband, Rudy, and children Gordon (Nancee) of Mercer Island, Washington, Emilie (Tim) Lies of Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada and Merlin (Susanne) of Lincoln, California. She is also survived by brothers Elmer Kurtz, Fargo, Clarence (Avis) Kurtz, Sykeston, Arnold (Eleanor) Kurtz, Carrington, sister Darlene (Jerry) Lund, Carrington, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by infant son, Clifford, in 1946.
