Clemence "Clem" Allmaras
Clemence George Allmaras, 89 of New Rockford, ND, passed away on Sunday, March 26th, 2017, at his home surrounded by family members. Clem was born on November 7th, 1927, the son of George and Marcella Allmaras (Beauclair) in New Rockford, ND. He grew up on the family farm, attending the local county school for 8 years and then at St. James Academy in New Rockford. He then enrolled in an agricultural program at the University of Minnesota. While in the University, Clem was involved in the Newman Club, the Catholic fraternity and was a Tri-State weight lifting champion.
After completing his degree in 1947, Clem moved back to New Rockford to assume management of the family farm in Wells County. In 1954, he married a schoolteacher from Harvey, ND, Jean Muscha, after being set up on a blind date by the priest at his parish. He was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bremen, ND, as an organist, CCD teacher, parish council member and Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Clem also spent over a decade aiding the local youth community as a 4H leader. After his retirement from farming in 1993, Clem moved to New Rockford and joined St. John’s Catholic Church, where he remained active in the Knights of Columbus, served on the New Rockford City Hospital board, and was a New Rockford Cenex board member. Clem loved square dancing with the Rockford Squares and participated in this pastime with Jean and some of his children for many years. Always the consummate cattleman, Clem’s greatest joy was his cow calf operation, which he continued to run even after his retirement.
Clem is survived by his wife Jean of New Rockford, daughters Rosanne (Dave) Schmidt of Bismarck, ND; Monica (William) Waldschmidt of Crystal Lake, IL; Yvonne (Jeff) Solheim of Bemidji, MN; sons Ron (Martha) of Tuttle, OK; Jerry (Julie) of Auburn, WA; Kevin (Conni) of Carrington, ND; Brian (Annette) of Columbus, OH; 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; his sisters Camilla Lex, Hastings, MN; Lorraine McManmon, Hastings, MN; Patricia (Duane) Straley, Savage, MN; brother Charles (Lorraine), Colorado Springs, CO, and many nieces and nephews. Message: I would like to express my sincere sympathy for all of your family and in passing with Clem. I will still remember the visits of the Papa farmers and Moms getting in some times to visit and be vigilant on the farms. I always enjoyed visiting the Allmaras homestead because we were always welcome. Clem will always have a place in my heart..next to my dad as a buddy and I'm sure next to God as a good man on the plains.
In honor of Clem!
