Anne Allmaras
Anne Allmaras, 89, New Rockford, N.D., died Friday, December 10, 2010, at her own home, when her heart stopped beating as she reached the top of the staircase to heaven on her way to bed, with her guardian angel holding her hand. She is resting peacefully now in God’s arms. Anne Elizabeth Schmidt was born July 14, 1921, in the small farming community of Heaton, N.D. She was the third youngest of 10 children born to Adam and Beatrice (Paul) Schmidt, German immigrants from Russia via Canada in 1913. Anne graduated as salutatorian from high school in Carrington, N.D., and then graduated from Dakota Business College in Fargo, N.D. Anne began working as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture, ASC Office, at the Foster County Court House, Carrington. Anne met her future husband, Frank J. Allmaras, while roller skating, and they married June 21, 1943, in Carrington, N.D. Frank worked at Midway City Creamery in New Rockford, N.D., and in the early years of their marriage, Anne worked in the ASC Office at the Eddy County Court House. However, Anne gave up her career to become a full-time mother, one of the best on earth. Anne and Frank had 10 children, and Anne lovingly tended their flock, including years of care for children terminally ill with cystic fibrosis. In Anne’s “spare time,” she wrote poetry, read voraciously, and was the best correspondent with letters either written in perfect penmanship or tapped out on a manual typewriter. Anne also played the piano by ear, a musical talent that she inherited from her father who played the accordion. Anne loved to dance, loved to laugh, and loved to drive her purple car. Indeed, she became a local legend as “The Purple Lady.” Surviving are seven children: Noel Evans, Eagan, MN, Julie (Gary) Engberg, Hankinson, ND, Elizabeth Allmaras, Eagan, MN, Paula Allmaras (Viorel Teodorescu), St. Paul, MN, Rose (Frank) James, Land O’ Lakes, FL, Mary (Jeff) Erman, Bismarck, and Jeff (Amy) Allmaras, Encinitas, CA. There are 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry Anne’s memory in their hearts. Anne will be reunited with her husband, Frank, and three of their children: Valerie, Alan, and Peter.

Message: Noel, Earth and Eden
Am very sorry of your mother and grandmothers passing. I only met her a few times and she was the sweetest lady. She looks much like my grandmother did who was from Prussia a little country between Germany & Russia German/Russian or Berlin as we know it today. She is in good hands and with her family in Heaven. You will see her again. In the mean time know that she is watching over you and that she is still with you in your heart. It is hard to go on but know that she is with you always and you will be together again. Life is so short as we know it. Thinking of you and praying for you.
Sincerely,
Jim Johnson West Fargo, ND
