Maximilianna "Maxine" Baker
Maxine Baker, age 98, died Friday, February 21, 2014, at Vine Valley Home, Sun Valley, CA. Maxine was born October 12, 1915, at Kensal, ND, the daughter of Charley and Alvina Bata. After graduation from Kensal High School she moved to Oregon with her sister Val to live with her Aunt Mary. In Oregon, she worked as a cook. She met her future husband, Marion Baker, in Oregon and they were married on July, 16, 1941 in Las Vegas, NV. They lived in California for the rest of their lives. They had one daughter, Sharon. They were married for 28 years when Marion passed away on September 5, 1968. Maxine worked as a cafeteria worker at an elementary school before retiring. She was a wonderful cook and an amazing baker. She also enjoyed canning. She had two grandchildren, Brooke and Brett. They were the light of her life and she was involved in their lives from the moment they were born. She also took delight in her great grandchildren, Rebecca, Austin and Jade. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon (David) Provence, Winnetka, CA; two grandchildren, Brooke (Jeremy) Clark, Ojai, CA; Brett (Maritess) Provence, Long Beach, CA; three great grandchildren, Rebecca Moya, Austin and Jade Clark; three sisters, Frances Dahl, Cooperstown, ND; Johanna Somsen, Jamestown, ND; Helen Schlotman, Carrington, ND; one brother, Charles (Jane) Bata, Kensal, ND; one brother-in-law, Jack (Diane) Baker; one sister-in-law, Elsie Kimball; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents, one brother, Gerhard Bata; three sisters, Arlene Page, Val Bata and Rose Somsen; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Baker.
