Arnold Berg

Arnold H. Berg, age 91, Carrington, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.


Arnold was born November 26, 1921 at Starkweather, N.D., the son of Bert and Emma (Hanson) Berg. He graduated from Starkweather High School in 1940. He then attended N.D. State School of Science in Wahpeton, N.D.


On May 23, 1942, he married Marian Delores Johnson at Starkweather. On October 29, 1942, he entered the US Army at Fort Snelling, Minn. He served with the 353rd Infantry Reg. Co. B in central Europe and the Rhineland during World War II. He was honorably discharged December 9, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wis.


After his military service, he began his grain elevator management in Starkweather in 1946, followed by 40 years in the business. He served Webster, Edmunds, Sheyenne, New Rockford and Fessenden, all in North Dakota, Webster, S.D., and Fairfield, Mont., in elevators affiliated with Cenex Harvest States. In 1985, he retired and they made their home in Carrington.


He was a member of the Carrington American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 89th Division Society, Trinity Lutheran Church and Carrington Senior Citizens.


Survivors include two daughters: Linda (Curt) Meth, Kingfischer, Okla., and Pattie (Allen) Stock, Carrington; son-in-law, Larry Krueger, Harvey, N.D.; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and special friend, Eileen Aultman, Carrington.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marian; daughter, Sheila Krueger; two brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Carlo Meth.
