Donald Boehmer

Donald P. Boehmer, age 78, passed away October 10, 2017, at his home in Carrington, ND.

Donald Patrick Boehmer was born on July 20, 1939, in Devils Lake, ND, to Donald and Dorothy (Wright) Boehmer. He and his brother Robert were raised in Edmore. After graduating from Edmore High School, in 1957, Don achieved a Bachelor’s of Science in Education, a Master’s Degree in Education, and a PhD in Research and Development. He spent six years as a teacher and 35 years as a Director of Special Education Services in North Dakota and Alaska.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Lymburn in 1958; they had three children, Patrick, Audrey, and Donald. He enjoyed spending time with his family; there were many camping adventures and traveling as a family. He was proud to watch his grandchildren participate in their various activities growing up.

Don had many hobbies including old time music, dancing with Nancy, photography and matting/ framing his photos, woodworking, gardening, and classic cars; he was also an avid clay target shooter. Don was always a very motivated tenacious individual, who constantly had a project going. This continued into his retirement. He and Nancy organized an annual community polka event to benefit local children’s organizations.

Education was very important to Don. Not only did he help others learn, he was a lifetime learner himself. Don supported and encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue higher education.

His love of nature and animals is displayed in his beautiful photography; his attention to detail is evident in his framing. Don attacked life with a gusto. He always said there would be time to sit around later. We are eternally grateful he never had to sit around.

He is survived by his loving wife of  59 years Nancy, Carrington; sons Patrick (Sharon), Carrington, ND; Donald (Ardis), Gackle, ND; and daughter Audrey (Terry) Eckes, Fargo, ND; 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.

Don is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Donald’s family who will donate to a charity of Donald’s choice.
