Virginia "Ginny" Braathen
Ginny Braathen, age 71, of Tolna, ND, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Coteau Des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD. Virginia “Ginny� Olson was born October 11, 1941, in New Rockford, one of eleven children born to Ingvald and Florence (Lindstrom) Olson. She grew up in rural Sheyenne, attended country school at Greenfield #2, and graduated as class valedictorian from Sheyenne High School. She went on to Minot State University for one year. Ginny was married to Gerald Affeldt. They had later divorced. She worked for New Rockford State Bank and Erling Rolfson Insurance from 1962-1980. Ginny married Terry Braathen on December 19, 1980 in New Rockford. They have lived and farmed near Tolna since that time. She loved to oil paint, garden, feed and bird watch, and had two cockatiels, and 2 finches as pets, she enjoyed league bowling, entertaining company, collecting rocks, working puzzles, and most of all she loved to read. Ginny will be missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Terry, Tolna, ND; 2 daughters, Janie (Marlon) Steiner, Sisseton, SD, Tonya (Scott) Close, Watertown, SD; 2 grandchildren, Angela (Kevin) Storm, April (Jason) Kraft; 2 great-grandchildren, Payton John Storm and Madelynne Storm; 4 sisters, LouAnn Carlson, Seattle, WA, Marlys Peterson, Sacramento, CA, Faye Kanzelman, Peggy Gudmundson, both of New Rockford, ND; one sister-in-law, Barbara (Ron) Peterson, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Gene, Jim, Ernie, and Loren; 2 sisters, Shirley Westby and Lily Westby.
