Mary Carr

Mary Jo Carr, age 63, passed away at her home the morning of December 23, 2015, with her family at her side in Carrington, ND.

Mary Jo Sheets was born April 7, 1952, to Jack and Mae (Reimers) Sheets in Carrington.  She attended school in Melville, ND, until the fourth grade when she transferred to Carrington.  After high school, Mary attended the University of North Dakota and earned a degree in elementary education.

She was united in marriage July 10, 1976, to Thomas Patrick Carr in Carrington.  They enjoyed traveling to visit family and spending time on the beach.  She loved going to her sister’s to swim, doing puzzles, working in the yard, and going to the casino with Tom and her mother-in-law, Lorraine Carr.

After college, her first job was teaching in Pingree, ND.  Later, she substituted in Carrington and started her own daycare that she had for many years.  When her own children were grown and she was given a chance to go back into the teaching world, she accepted the opportunity.  She taught special education at Fort Totten, ND.  She loved all of her students and she worried about her school children until her final days.

Mary is survived by her husband, Tom of Carrington; four children: Megan (Murray) Zook, Kingwood, TX, Scott (Shannon) Carr, Barnesville, MN, Ryan (Ericka) Carr, Lakeland, FL, and Kevin (Cassandra) Carr, Carrington; and seven grandchildren: Mara, Maddox, Macey, and Madelyn Zook; Shawn Swenson and Brody Carr; and Bryson Carr; one sister, Connie Kehl; her mother-in-law, Lorraine Carr; five sisters-in-law: Joanne (Marlin) Stokes, Jeanette Papillon, Jeanine (Glenn) Heuer, Geraldine (Denny) Peterson, Karen (Dennis) Loeks; six brothers-in-law: Jim (Faith) Carr, Jerome (Peggy) Carr, Pat Carr, Paul (Stacey) Carr, Robert (Heather) Carr, and David Carr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Mae Sheets; her father-in-law James Carr; brother-in-law Perry Kehl; two nieces, Kerri Schulz and Janelle Papillon; and one nephew, Lance Papillon.

Message: I am saddened to hear of Mary Jo's passing. My dad, Jim Saunders, was her cousin. I remember her well from our time visiting at Grandma and Grandpa Reimer's lake house in Park Rapids, MN.  I especially remember the summer of her wedding when I was a little girl and we got to go Aunt Mae's house and see Mary Jo's wedding dress and veil.  She was so beautiful!

My thoughts and prayers are with all of her children and family.

With Sympathy,

Mara
