Michael Carr

Mike Carr, age 72, of Carrington ND, died Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Carrington Health Center. His wife Darlene, Daughter Irene and Son Greg were at his side.

Michael (Mike) Carr was born October 12, 1944, the son of Edward and Irene (Theis) Carr in Carrington, ND.   Mike grew up in his birth town of Carrington.  As a young man he moved to Los Angeles, CA where his brother Patrick lived and worked. Mike worked as a cabinet maker in California from 1965 to 1967. When duty called, he returned to Carrington to the National Guard.

Mike was united in marriage to Darlene Eidsvoog on November 11, 1967.  They made their home in Carrington.

Mike went to work at Steinman Manufacturing as a welder for 2 ½ years, then he moved to Farmers Union working as a mechanic for several years.  Concurrently he and Stub Gussiaas opened a joint venture known as Carrington Launderette.  Later Mike purchased that business and added a car wash followed by a pizza restaurant, The Dough Roller.  In 1982 the laundromat was sold and pizza shop moved to a new location with a new name, Big B’s Pizza.  Mike started a sandblasting and painting business providing services throughout North Dakota in 1985.  After many years, he returned to welding career at LAS Manufacturing.  When LAS closed, he relocated his services to Rosenau Equipment in the welding and repair department.  Mike retired in 2015 from Rosenau Equipment.

Mike enjoyed recreational sportsmanship shooting with his sons, animal companionship (especially his dog Holly whom rode with him in the Ford Ranger regularly), and playing pinochle.

Mike is survived by his wife Darlene, four children: Irene Carr, Duluth, MN; Michael (Bobbie) Carr, Fargo, ND; Denise (William) Cantwell, Minnetonka, MN; and Gregory (Careea) Carr, Rock Springs, WY.  Eight grandchildren: Alyssa, Jay, Colby, Jonathan, Elena, Lily, D’Khan and Archer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Raymond, Patrick, James) and sister (Marie Gussiaas).
