Linda Drake

Linda Drake, age 71, of Sheyenne, ND, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Linda Lou Gilderhus was born September 1, 1943, the daughter of Thomas and Leona (Smith) Gilderhus in Devils Lake, ND. She graduated from Oberon High School. On January 3, 1961, Linda was united in marriage to Kenneth Drake at Oberon. Two children were born to them, Keith (1962), and Leann (1963). They lived in the Sheyenne/Oberon area, until settling in Sheyenne in the mid 1960’s. They moved to rural Sheyenne and began farming together in 1973, and started a dairy in 1974, which they operated until 1986. They then raised cattle and increased their grain acreage. Over the years, while Linda farmed and milked cows, she also worked as Crop Insurance adjuster for 23 years. She was a member of the Benson County Conservation Board for 19 years, and in 2005, she was "Runner-up" Durum Triangle Farm Woman of the Year.
Linda loved visiting and spending time with family and friends and farming. She was so excited when she became a grandmother for the first time in 1984. She loved to read cookbooks, bake, cook, work with animals and be outdoors. Linda spent a great deal of the last few years driving around and managing the farm with her faithful traveling companion and cattle dog Ripper! She is survived by her husband Kenneth Drake of Sheyenne; son Keith Drake, of Sheyenne; daughter Leann Beglau, Parsberg, Germany; granddaughter Carleen Beglau (Jared) Terres, of Fargo, ND; new-born great-grandson Alaric Thomas Terres of Fargo; two sisters Rosemary (Randy) Archer of Britton, SD, Vivian Phillips of Watertown, SD; and one brother Edwin Gilderhus of Oberon. She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister Susan Gilderhus; one brother-in-law George Phillips.
