Eddie Weippert

Eddie Weippert, age 88, of Carrington, ND, formerly of Sykeston, ND, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at his home. He fought a courageous 10 month battle of cancer. Eddie’s strong faith inspired his family and his other caregivers, who included Presentation Hospice.

Eddie Wesley Weippert was born on November 22, 1921, the son of Jacob and Amelia (Brown) Weippert on the family farm near Chaseley, ND. He attended school at Chaseley and farmed with his father until age 27. On June 15, 1949, Eddie was united in marriage to Ethel Marie Becker at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Sykeston, ND. They farmed and milked cows near Sykeston for 39 years. In 1988, they moved to Carrington.

His love for animals brought endless hours of enjoyment for his children. His hobbies were horseback riding, fishing, hunting, trapping, and playing cards. Eddie and Ethel loved to travel with family and friends. Their travels included all 50 states, 5 countries in Europe, Mexico, Canada and 2 cruises. Eddie was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph’s and St. Elizabeth’s Society, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In 1954, he was chosen as a diversified farmer in Wells County. Eddie was a 4-H leader for years, working with many young boys, including his own sons. He was a great role model and mentor for his family, friends, and community.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Ethel; 5 sons, Don (Lili) of Yakima, WA; Dennis (Bonnie) of Watertown, SD; Danny (Sherri) and Doug of Garden City, KS; Dallas (Amy) of Hutchinson, KS; 2 daughters, Debora (Mark) Miller, Heaton, ND; DeeAnn (Brad) Krugler, Moorhead, MN; 18 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Emil (Marlene) Weippert, Bismarck, ND.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Dean Michael; grandson, Carl Weippert; his parents; brothers, Ted and Edwin; sisters, twins Alice and Leaha, Emma Huft, Ella Wahl, Eunice Brodehl, Edna Ellsworth, and Anna Mae Sponcler.

The family suggests memorials to St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Sykeston, or to Presentation Hospice, Carrington.
