Ellen Schultz
Ellen D. Schultz, age 86, of Carrington, ND, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.
Ellen DeEtta McDonald was born April 29, 1923, the daughter of William and DeEtta (Bennett) McDonald in rural Melville, ND. She was raised on a farm in the Churches Ferry area, where she attended school and later finishing high school in Devils Lake, ND. After high school, Ellen and a friend traveled to Portland, OR to work in a sheet metal factory for the war effort and also worked in San Francisco for a short time before returning to North Dakota.
Ellen taught school in rural Stutsman Co., ND, where she met Harlow Hagel. On October 28, 1944, she married Harlow in Carrington. They farmed west of Carrington and is where they raised their three children. They later divorced.
On September 26, 1977, Ellen married Arlen “Dutch� Schultz in Moorhead, MN. They lived in Jamestown for a short time before moving to Carrington, where they built their home and have resided since.
She enjoyed traveling, good times at the lake, yard sales, gardening and collecting tea pots. But most of all, she enjoyed being with her families.
Ellen is survived by her husband, Dutch Schultz; one daughter, DeEtta Kay (George) Aljets, and two sons, Dennis (Carla) Hagel and Kelly Hagel, all of Carrington; step children, Jim (Gail) Schultz, Jamestown, Mike Schultz, Yankton, SD, Karen (Joel) Rindy, Carrington, Patty Wolff, Casselton; one step daughter-in-law, Linda Schultz, Carrington; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; fifteen step grandchildren, thirty-one step great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Mari (Roland) Peterson and Wilma Hobson, both of Carrington, and Clarice (Lew) Payne, Boise, ID; and one brother, Gene McDonald, Coulee City, WA.
