Richard Carlton Erickson was born on July 9, 1927, at Carrington, ND, the only son of Frank and Bertha (Schmidt) Erickson. He grew up and graduated from Bordulac High School. On May 29, 1944, Dick was united in marriage to Shirley Nihill at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kensal, ND.

He was a lifetime rancher and farmer. His land is currently being farmed by young ND farmers. He was a Knights of Columbus member for over 50 years. Dick attended a Catholic church wherever they lived.

After his accident in 1966, he gave up active ranching and farming and spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Dick was always anxious to return to his ND roots in the early spring and would remain until winter set in. It was not unusual for him to be driving south with a snowstorm on his rear bumper.

Joys in Dick’s life were his family, participating in interesting conversations with his friends, attending auction sales and being entertained by an assortment of family pets. He collected and used various and sundry items from tools to Chalmers tractors. He always had a kind word for friends or strangers and helped many people in various ways.

Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley of Carrington; three daughters, Diana Condon, Naples, Florida, Elaine (Donald Hal) Schultz, Austin, TX, RJ “Joyce� Erickson, Sedona, AZ; two sons, Richard Erickson, Carrington, and Robert J. Erickson, Apache Junction, AZ; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Linda.
