Charles "Charlie" Evanson

Charlie Evanson, age 66, of New Rockford, ND, died on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at CHI St. Alexis Health in Carrington, ND.

Charles Bradley Evanson was born on February 28, 1951, in Fargo, ND. He was the first born son of Jim and Mary (Hart) Evanson. The family moved to New Rockford in 1952, when his father accepted a teaching position. Charlie graduated from New Rockford High School in 1969. He then went on to graduate from Moorhead State University, where he met his future wife, Karen Gullickson, and received a BA in Social Work in 1977.   From there, he went on to take a job as a county case manager in Kildeer, ND. He soon found a love for stained glass and turned that passion into a career for several years, in both Fargo and then Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Charlie and Karen were united in marriage January 24, 1982, at Glencoe, MN. While living in St. Paul, Karen and Charlie had two daughters, Rachel and Alice, and they decided to move the family to New Rockford in order to raise their children in a smaller community. Charlie worked for twenty-five years for people who have developmental disabilities in positions at 4th Corporation, New Rockford, and REM, Devils Lake, ND. After his retirement from social work, he worked for a local contractor and then at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, both of New Rockford.

Charlie was an active member of the community, serving on Celebrations Inc., Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd Foundation, and held many positions at the Methodist Church. One of his most-loved pastimes was his Thursday mornings with the Men’s Prayer Breakfast.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Karen, New Rockford, two daughters, Rachel Evanson, Fargo, and Alice Evanson, Moorhead; his siblings, Emily Hilgers, Moorhead, MN, John Evanson, Fargo, Anna (Doug) Hoffman, Trenton, ND, and Doug  Evanson, Redmond, WA; and by his nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary (Hart) Evanson.

Message: Karen, Rachel, and Alice, I am so sorry for your loss.  Charlie and I became friends in 1978 - 79 when we both worked in Killdeer, ND and we shared a small house on the edge of the prairie just south of Dunn Center, ND.    Through some fun times, warm summers and a tough winter, he was a great guy and a good friend.  I valued his intelligence, great sense of humor and his friendship.  He was easy to get along with and we had a lot of laughs.  I still think of him often when I think of those young days out west and particularly when I make a tuna fish sandwich (his was the best).  We are all better for knowing Charlie.  He leaves the world a much better place because of his life, family, friends and his work for people in North Dakota.

From me, my wife LeeAnn and my daughter Abby, all of Charlie's family is in our thoughts and prayers.
