Judy K. Fandrich

Judy Fandrich, age 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday March 16, 2013, at Carrington Health Center after  a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Judy Kay VandeHoven, the daughter of Henry (Hank) and Doris VandeHoven, was born at the hospital in Carrington, ND, on September 12, 1952. Judy was raised in Carrington and graduated from Carrington High School in 1970. After high school, she went to Minneapolis to Lab Tech school, and returned to Carrington where she worked at the Carrington hospital. While living in Carrington she met the love of her life, Michael Fandrich.  From Carrington, she moved to Grand Forks where she worked at United Hospital.  On April 21, 1979, Judy was united in marriage to Michael Fandrich, and they lived in Grand Forks. On August 5, 1981 their first born, Amanda Louise, was born, and two weeks later they moved  to Dickinson, ND. On April 7, 1984, they had their second daughter, Mykke Patricia, and on September 22, 1986, Megan Elaine was born. Judy stayed home with her three girls while they were in Dickinson. In the spring of 1989, they moved to New Rockford and Judy went back to work at Carrington Health Center as a phlebotomist. She worked there until her health required her to retire; she loved her family at CHC unconditionally.

Judy absolutely loved life; there was never a bad day in Judy’s world, even when she fought her unfair battle. She was born to be a mother and grandma, her daughters and grandchildren meant the world to her; wherever they were she was sure to be. Judy enjoyed the outdoors, as long as it was hot! She loved gardening and doing her yard work. She also loved golfing. In the winter, she enjoyed her bowling nights and in her younger days, you could find her cross country skiing down “the lane”.

Judy is survived by her husband Michael, New Rockford, ND; her daughters Amanda and Justin of New Rockford, ND,  Mykke and her husband Michael Kjellerson, Fargo, ND, Megan of Siren, WI; grandchildren: Addysen Fandrich, New Rockford, ND, Carsen and Ashlyn Kjellerson of Fargo, ND; siblings: JoAnn (Rodney) Settelmeyer, New Rockford, ND, Michael (Deb) VandeHoven, Carrington, ND, Paula (Bill) Loose, Woodworth, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Doris, her brothers, Gary and Randy, and her sister Pam.

Message: I am writing now because I wanted to express my deepest sympathy for your loss, I only recently saw this in the paper.  Judy and I were roommates in Minneapolis as well as classmates, I have very fond memories of her. I would have to say she was my best friend while living in Minneapolis. Judy took the time to come visit me and my family when we were just beginning, my husband and I went to Judy and Michael's wedding and we were in touch for many years via Christmas cards, but the last ten years we slowly fell out of touch.  My mind is flooding with memories of her, she will always have a place in my heart. My deepest condolences and prayers are with your family.  Sincerely, Gloria

Message: My heart aches for the loss of a truly wonderful friend for so many fine years.  She was my maid of honor in 1972 and I was so honored to have her witness my marriage.  She provided so many with laughter and her caring heart.  I know her entire circle of family and friends will always remember her loving ways and kindness.  I wish I could be with the family at this time, but I am too far away to make it to North Dakota.  Know all of you are in my hearts and prayers.  She was so proud of all her family - particularly those beautiful girls and grandkids.  Loved the picture at Christmas this past year.  She is with the Lord and her other siblings and parents.  She will be in our hearts forever!  Remember, she will always hear your spoken words and silent thoughts and watch over you from her place in God's hands.  I miss her!    Love, Helen Harildstad

Message: Judy was like a big sister to me. I don't think I ever saw her without a smile. When I graduated from high school (1974), I didn't have an open house, but she came to our house afterwards and gave me a gift of matching bath and hand towels and washcloths. She said as I was going to be going out on my own now, I would need these. I was touched that she took the time to congratulate me and give me a gift. Judy also took the time to stop in and see my mom (Beth Roth) over the years, particularly after she was widowed. I always appreciated that. But that was Judy. Her loving heart knew no bounds. I will always smile when I think of her. I think she'd like that. May God wrap her family in His loving arms.
