Patricia A. Moo Garnaas, 69, of Sioux Falls, SD died Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, July 20 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Her committal service will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 21 at Grandfield Lutheran Cemetery, Sheyenne, ND.

Patricia Anne Moo, the eldest child of Paul and Kathryn (Gallagher) Moo, was born on October 13, 1947 in South Bend, IN. Pat graduated with the class of ’65 from St. Joseph’s High School, South Bend. She attended St. Thomas College in Minneapolis, MN and Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.

Following college, Pat moved to Minneapolis, where she worked in finance and met future husband Levor “Bud” Garnaas. Pat and Bud married on April 7, 1979. She and Bud subsequently lived in Chicago, IL, Corcoran, MN, and Princeton, MN. When Bud retired, they moved to Cotton Lake, MN where the Garnaas families have long had summer homes.

Eventually Pat and Bud decided the winters were too hard, so they “moved south” to Sioux Falls in 2012. In part, they chose Sioux Falls because of Pat’s life-long affection for the city, which dates back to annual family visits during her childhood to see her maternal grandparents, John and Mae Gallagher. Pat always treasured the memories of those visits with the Gallagher clan.

Pat was an avid reader and was particularly captivated by Russian literature and history. Pat studied Russian, and spent a month on St Petersburg shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union. Pat’s other passion was her too far-flung family; whenever possible Pat made trips to visit her siblings, nieces, and nephews, never missing a confirmation, graduation, or other important date.

Grateful for having shared Pat’s life are her brother, Paul E. Moo and his wife, Vicki, Allen, TX; her sister, Barbara E. Moo and her husband, Andrew Koenig, Gillette, NJ; four siblings-in-law, Kevin McShane, South Bend, IN, Ahna Kolsrud and her husband, Gary, Rochert, MN, Becky Malchow and her husband, Tom, Aberdeen, SD, Jon Garnaas and his wife, Faith, Des Moines, IA; many nieces and nephews, including Paul E. Moo, Oceanside, CA, Pat Moo, Allen TX, Joanna Kitler, The Colony, TX, Jacob Johnston and Isaac Johnston, both of Allen TX, James McShane and his wife, Alicia, Minneapolis, MN, Kevin Patrick McShane, Shreveport, LA, Sarah McShane and Mary Kate McShane, both of Cincinnati, OH, Julie Davis and her husband, Lee, Corvallis, OR, Mary Wilson and her husband, Tom, Maple Grove, MN, Cindy Anderson and her husband, Kent, Bismarck, ND, Erik Malchow, Alexandria, MN, Peder Malchow and his wife, Heather, Des Moines, IA, Mark Malchow and his wife, Gina, Aberdeen, SD, Nate Malchow and his wife, Sarah, Sioux Falls, SD, Courtney Stevens and her husband, Abe, Fortuna, CA, Luke Garnaas and his wife, Rachel, Des Moines, IA, Adam Garnaas and his wife, Blair, Los Angeles, CA; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Among the many friends Pat leaves behind, her family is especially grateful to her dear friend and next-door neighbor Patricia “Trish” Dougherty, who was always there beside Pat as she and Bud faced the challenges of their final years.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, on May 27, 2017; her parents, Paul and Kathryn; and two sisters, Katherine McShane and Martha Moo.
