Dan Genre

Albert “Dan” Genre, 84, of Carrington, ND, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington.

Dan was born, the son of Horace and Grace (Hubler) Genre, on February 10, 1931, in Deadwood, SD.  He lived in Bridgeway, MT, until 1936, when his family moved to a ranch north of Towner, ND, where he spent his childhood and attended school.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1951.

Dan married Ramona “Mona” Ellsworth on May 12, 1953.  They moved to Butte, MT, where Dan worked in the copper mines with his brother.  They moved back to North Dakota and Dan worked as an oil rig hand in Westhope, ND.  He then moved back to Towner, and lived on the ranch where he had grown up until he moved to Carrington in 1969, where he was a partner in Carrington Livestock.  He sold out to his partner in 1973, and started his cattle order buying business, Genre Livestock.  Mona passed away from cancer in 1982, and Dan married Cleone Schuchard in 1983.  He continued working until his retirement in 2013, at the age of 82.

Dan loved to fish, play pinochle and tell stories.  He also loved to tease, laugh and was an avid joke teller.  He was a die-hard Vikings football fan, watching every game and always had the season schedule on the table by his recliner so he could write down each win or loss.  He was a wonderful, loving father who loved the Lord and his church.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona; his parents, Horace and Grace; his brothers, Warren, Wayne, August and Don; one sister, Annabelle Payne.

Dan is survived by his brother, Alvin Genre, Westhope, ND; his four children, Renee (Annette Romero) Genre, Austin, TX, Rhonda (Keith Drake) Genre, Carrington, Rial (Lynnette) Genre, Dickinson, ND and Ross (Buffy) Genre, Carrington; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Dan is also survived by his former wife and very good friend, Cleone and her children, Jeff Schuchard, Jamestown, Danny Schuchard, Carrington, Bob Schuchard, Jamestown, and Lisa Marchus, Fessenden; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

There are three women that Dan loved as much as his own daughters that also survive him; Carmen Polson, Lisa Marchus and DeeDee Pogatshnik.  You all had a very special place in Dad’s heart.

Dan touched many lives and will live on in our hearts forever.  Love you Dad.

Message: Uncle Dan was a true blessing in our lives. He liked to share about a hilarious incident or joke but yet could be sensitive at the appropriate time. I know my Mom really appreciated the calls that he would make to her after her cousin Mona died. We are praying for God's comfort and peace as you go through this time. Love to you all!
