Randy Goheen

 

Randolph “Randy� Lee Goheen, 61, of Carrington, ND, passed away April 10, 2015, in his home surrounded by his beloved family after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Randy was born November 16, 1953, in Minot, ND. He was the son of Jerrold “Jerry� and Sylvia “Sue� (Bale) Goheen. Randy was raised in Carrington and graduated from Carrington High School in 1971. He went on to further his education at the Bottineau School of Forestry.


On September 2, 1978, he married Karen McCreary on the family farm near Carrington. They were blessed with two children a son Elliot and a daughter Danielle. Randy farmed from 1974-1978 with his father and from 1980-1997 with his wife. Through September of 1997 to March 1999 he worked for Randy Gisvold. During the winter of 2000 he worked for Terry Schander Construction. From 1999-2014 he worked and farmed for the Gussiaas’ brothers during the farming season and worked for Rosenau Equipment Company in Carrington, during the winters.


Randy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also part of the Foster County Agriculture Improvement Board. He was assistant wrestling coach for Carrington High School from 1991-1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. Randy was a man of strong faith who loved his family dearly. He always put others before himself. He had a gentle spirit and a great sense of humor. He taught us patience, integrity, honesty, and graciousness.


Randy is survived by his wife, Karen Goheen, Carrington; son Elliot (Missie) Goheen, granddaughter Makaya and grandson Grayson of Barnesville, MN; daughter Danielle (Tony) Kraling, granddaughter Madison of Cooperstown, ND; his mother Sue (Wes) Buechler, Carrington; sisters Kim (Dr. Mark) Emmerich, Dickinson, ND; Lori (Jim) Cook, Carrington; brother Todd (Tammy) Goheen, Oshkosh, WI.

He is further survived by aunt Marjorie Glinz, Jamestown, ND; uncle William "Bill" (Marilyn) Goheen, Minot, ND; brother-in-law Jim (Sandy) McCreary, sister-in-law Linda (Terry) Schander both of Fargo, ND; sister-in-law Dee McCreary, Rochester, NY; brother-in-law Mike McCreary, Esmond, ND, and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.


Randy was preceded in death by his father Jerry Goheen, father and mother-in-law Pat and Doris McCreary.


In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Randy’s honor for brain cancer research.

One of my fondest memories of Randy was wrestling with him on the team in 1970-1971.  Randy was a senior and I was a freshman.  He was the heavyweight and I was the 98 pounder.  Randy always looked out for me and protected me in the wrestling room.
