Clifford L. "Cliff" Grager

Clifford L. Grager, age 82, of Carrington, ND, died Saturday, November 16, 2013, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.

Clifford LaVerne Grager known as Cliff was born on February 11, 1931, the son of Avolt and Leisetta (Triechel) Grager in Bucephalia Township in Foster County. He attended and graduated from Rosehill Country School in Foster County. Clifford was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bordulac, ND. After graduation, he farmed with his dad and brother on the family farm. Cliff also operated Grager Trucking with his brother, Ray. He then attended a mechanical trade school in Park Rapids, MN.

Cliff met Ruth Anton and on April 12, 1966, married the love of his life, They farmed east of Carrington until selling out in 1974, and purchased a cattle ranch in Melrose, MT. Cliff and Ruth later divorced but remained close friends for the remainder of his life. Cliff moved back to Carrington and worked a drag line for Donny Jensen. He worked a few years in road construction before going to work and retiring from the Foster County Road Department. On February 8, 2011, Cliff became a resident of Golden Acres Manor, which was spearheaded by his father Avolt in 1964.

Clifford will be deeply missed by the love of his life, Ruth; two sons, Ralph (Linda) and Jay, both of Sykeston; one daughter, Debra (Jack) Swenson, Belgrade, MT; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray (Marlene) of Carrington; two sisters, Louise (Jerome) Glimm, Conrad, MT, and Loretta (Dallas) Baumbach of Hurdsfield, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; and daughter-in-law Krista Grager.
