Gary Guler
Gary Guler, age 66, of New Rockford, ND, died Sunday, April 2, 2017, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford. Gary George Guler was born on December 10, 1950, to George and Gladys (Herr) Guler, in New Rockford. He attended school and graduated from New Rockford Central in 1968. Gary joined the Army National Guard in 1969, completing his training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and was also a student at the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where he studied auto body repair. In 1969, Gary entered the National Guard, and in 1970, he became a regular member of the Army National Guard, and served as a Small Arms Repairman, stationed at Camp Grafton in Devils Lake, ND. He had received many awards while on active duty. In May of 1973, Gary was united in marriage to Debra Bush at New Rockford, and two children were born to them, Barbara and David. In March of 1978, Gary was injured in an accident while on duty with the National Guard, which left him with a life-long disability. He received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Gary entered the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd on March 8, 1979. Gary was an avid hunter, and greatly enjoyed hunting with his father, George, and his brother, Tim. He was active in sports in high school, earning a letter in basketball, football, track, wrestling, and golf. He played American Legion baseball, and pitched a perfect game in one of the Legion District tournaments. Gary coached the American Legion baseball team in 1971, the year they were the State Class B Champions. He played amateur baseball for New Rockford, and participated on many winning teams. Gary is survived by his children, Barbara (Lonny) Dill, and David (Rachel) Guler, both of San Diego, CA; his sister, Jeanne (David) Tews, Jamestown, ND; his sister-in-law, Ann Guler, Pelican Rapids, MN/New Rockford; his uncle, Louis (Janet) Guler, New Rockford; six grandchildren: Austin Dill, Collin Dill, Evin Dill, Kaylee Guler, Tyler Guler, and Justin Guler; as well as four nephews, two nieces, several great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.
