Vernon Guthmiller

Vernon L.  Guthmiller, age 75, of Lisbon, ND, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Veterans Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Vernon Lloyd was born on January 6, 1942, at Heaton, ND, the son of John and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Schmidt) Guthmiller. He grew up in the Lake Williams, ND, area and attended school in Lake Williams and Robinson.

Vernon was united in marriage to Betty Rath on August 24, 1961. Vernon served two years in the Armed Forces at Fort Leonard Worth, MO before they moved to Pettibone and worked for the Patterson Land Company for 19-20 years. He then worked for Mitchell Farms for 10 years before they moved to Carrington in 2001. Then Vernon worked for Schultz Plumbing, Heating & AC until he retired in 2015.  After he retired Vernon moved to the Veterans home in Lisbon, ND. Betty died September 8, 2014.

Vernon is survived by his sons, Kevin (Merdyna) Carrington, Randy (Lori) Cathay, Jason (Melissa) Moorhead, MN; six grandchildren Tanner, Chloe, Jarrett, Alleigha, Lacey, Paige, and 2 step-granddaughters Christa (Mike) Davis, Tessa Stock. He is also survived by one brother Gary (Sharon) Beulah; brother-in-law Reinhold Gruebele, Pettibone; sisters-in-law Lois Guthmiller, Pettibone, Loretta (Pete) Hanson, Mandan, Marlys (Lyle) Leno, Tuttle, Gloria (Lyle) Guthmiller, Jamestown, and one brother-in-law Raymond Rath, MT; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, two brothers and one sister, his father and mother-in-law, eight brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.

Vernon was a man of many talents, his knowledge and wisdom will be missed by his family and friends…. Till we meet again.

Message: Jason, Kevin, Randy and all of your families, I am so sorry for your loss!  Vernon was such a kind and knowledgeable man and so much fun to work with at Pettibone Public School.  He had a great sense of humor!  I know you all have many special memories of your dad, and from experience I know it's those that get you through the loss of someone so special in your life.  My heart goes out to you today as you celebrate Vernon's life and say your final goodbyes.  As we drive home from Rochester our thoughts will be with you all!  RIP Vernon!
