Rubie Haag
Rubie Haag, age 90, of New Rockford, ND, died on December 25, 2017 at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford, where she had resided for the past year. Rubie Lautt was born on August 27, 1927, on the family farm in Logan County, ND, to Fred G. and Margaret (Kranzler) Lautt, the youngest of six children. She grew up on the farm and went to school in a one-room school house on the prairies of North Dakota. She loved to ride her pony with which she helped herd the cattle and sheep. She loved the farm life. Rubie and her older sister Marie performed in local talent shows, singing mostly hymns – they usually won a prize. She was united in marriage to Arthur W. Haag in 1947, in Fredonia, ND, where they lived until moving to Emrick, ND, in 1955. In 1958, the family moved to New Rockford. After her three oldest children left home, she started cleaning houses and was later a housekeeper at the Rockford Hotel until it burned down. She did caregiver work for a few years, then worked at City Hospital as a housekeeper for 19 years until it closed, and later was housekeeper for the New Rockford Community Clinic for over 19 years. Rubie was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the LWML, and American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. Rubie was an avid reader. She liked to crochet, sew, do latch hook, and garden. She did a lot of canning, and her children and grandchildren loved the chokecherry jam and cucumber relish she made each year. Rubie is survived by her children; Sharon Young of New Rockford, Harold of Wilmington, DE, Ruth (Mike) Bush of New Rockford, and Lori (Dean) Belgarde of Hatton, ND; six grandchildren, Desiree (Justin) Young-Zeiba, Jess (Brenda) Bush, Sheree Bush, Caitlin (Bryan) Haag-Murphy, Veronica Belgarde and Vincent Belgarde; three great-grandchildren, Quintrell Coleman, Braxton Hewitt, and Savannah Hoskin; nephews Clifford Nitschke, Clarence Nitschke, Roger Koenig, LeRoy Lautt, Marlo Lautt; niece Linda Drew; and sister Marie Wittmayer of Bismarck, ND. Message: I always remembered her for having such a big smile on her face and always a very hard worker. When I saw her at her birthday party I noticed how much pain she was in and tried to force a smile on her face. Now she can relax in comfort and rest in peace with no more pain! Our prayers are with you at the time of your loss of your Mother. Just remember she is in good hands now with the Lord!
