Emma Hegney

Emma L. Hegney, age 104, of New Rockford, ND, formerly of Carrington, ND, died Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Emma Lydia Hoffman was born to Adam and Pauline (Huff) Hoffman on April 12, 1910, on the homestead in Longview Township, near the Hawks Nest. She had a twin brother, Otto, who died in the fall of 1910.  Emma attended Longview #3 school through the fourth grade.

On October 15, 1945, Emma was united in marriage to Martin T. Hegney in Minot at the home of Pastor Becker. They lived on several farms south of Carrington. To this union were born four children. In 1952, the family moved into Carrington.

Emma enjoyed visiting relatives and friends. Over the years she helped numerous people in a variety of ways. She loved to walk, could be seen almost daily heading to someone’s home to visit, and stopping by the downtown businesses just to say “Hi” to the clerks.

God blessed her with a strong constitution, an excellent memory, a positive attitude, and a compassion for others.

She is survived by son, Darol Hegney, Jamestown, ND; daughter, Bernice Ruchotzke; grandson, Jay Ruchotzke; and two great-granddaughters, Emileigh and Johanna Ruchotzke, all of Ashern MB, Canada.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Otto, William, Louie, Arnold; sister, Ida Opp; son Tharold; husband Martin; and daughter, Dorene Olson.

Message: Hi Bernice!  Eddie and I were out of town and just got back late last night so I am just finding out that your Mom passed away.  She was so amazing, to live to 104 years old.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  You were a good daughter to her by visiting her so regularly.  It was a long trip to make each time.  Just you and Darol now.  I'm glad you have your family around you, especially during this time.  Marla
