Leila M. Heinitz, age 77, of New Rockford, ND, formerly of Carrington, ND, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Leila Mae Lura was born November 7, 1937, in Carrington, the daughter of Ole and Minnie (Iverson) Lura. She was the youngest of nine children.

Leila graduated from Carrington High School in 1956, and worked at the Carrington Hospital for a couple of years. She and Don Heinitz were married for 18 years before divorcing. Leila worked at a flower shop and café in Carrington for a time, and then was a caretaker for her parents for many years so that they were able to stay in their farm home.

She enjoyed knitting, going to rummage sales, and life on the family farm.

Leila is survived by her daughter Kim (Scott) Stafford, New Rockford and her son Rod (Michelle Olson) Heinitz, Carrington; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 2 sisters Olive (Bob) Froelich, Waterloo, IA and Esther Jensen, Centralia, WA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Monica Rae, 4 brothers, Edwin, Oswald, Kenneth, Mike, and 2 sisters, Leona Spoden and Ida Schuster.
